Family Guy: Stewie Kills Lois - Part 1
By fred | November 5, 2007
(S06E04) This is it… the 100th episode of a show once canceled by the network, yet another proof that those guys don’t have a clue of what good television is. This is a “special” episode, at least we all expect it to be I think, and it has been made to be one. It even comes with another special “episode” right before it, in order to celebrate the occasion !
I like Family Guy, and I think so far this season we’ve had ups and downs, despite this only being the fourth episode. We started with a great Star Wars parody, then a lame and already forgotten episode, and last time we had a pretty good episode. And now, the 100th episode !
But before that, the special. Before the actual episode was creator Seth MacFarlane himself, presenting a show mostly made of clips of the show. Mostly, because along with it were some reactions to “people who had never watched the show before”.
I usually really don’t like clips-episode, it’s useless and boring really. But this one was actually not bad, because it was fun to see a highly pretentious MacFarlane declaring how people loved the show, the show that made America laugh, especially to be followed by people who couldn’t express enough how they did not liked it, and how not funny it was.
“I don’t get it.” - “It’s not funny to me.” - “What’s the point?” - “I just thought it was horrible!”
Those people were obviously the best part of this special, and some even had me laughing. And before we get into the actual episode, let me join in with the show’s creator’s wish : “Here’s to the next 1000 ! And hopefully we won’t get canceled for two and a half f*cking years in the middle again.”
Now on to the episode, this special episode in which, as the title promised, “Stewie kills Lois”. When I read that title and saw the promo poster for the show, there’s one thing I kinda hoped this episode would be : a special episode that would bring us back to what the show used to be. I remember a time when Stewie constantly tried to kill his mother, it was his only goal in life, as well as his main job.
And yes, I secretly hoped this episode would bring us back there for a while, when the kid tried over & over again to kill his mother… aww, the good times.
On this end, it was a bit disappointing. Stewie just get on the boat, and shot her. That’s it, she’s dead. There was no reaching there, no succession of failed attempts to get ride of his creator, no over-complicated plan, none of that. And actually, overall, this episode didn’t feel so “special” to me. All in all it was simply a good episode of Family Guy, and after all maybe that’s all it needed to be.
Because the episode was exactly what one could expect from the show, with the cut-away jokes, pop references, bashing on Meg, it was all there. I mentioned the famous moment when Stewie (finally) kills Lois. Sure, it just happen with no tension or anything building up to it, still having him run away right after, only to fall and cry for his momie… “Oh, that’s right!” Yep, funny shit. Just what you want from your Family Guy weekly dose.
Bryan still in love with Lois and getting excited by Stewie’s evil plan to get on his mother, Meg being hit in the face, the story of “her” failed abortion, Chris’s “naivety”, Joe suspecting Peter after he took a life insurance policy on Lois on the boat, after their fight & he said he wished she was dead, the Titanic joke, Peter dating a stick figure, Harrison Ford wanting his family back, the trial, and Lois’s father simulation of the murder, Herbert’s appearance, there are too many moments and jokes to mention from this episode, and it was a regular half-hour episode. (Even though there’s a part 2 coming next week.)
This only proves that it was indeed a great episode of Family Guy, extremely funny, although I do feel it was “only” that, and didn’t had anything so special about it. But I laughed all the way through it, so really, who cares, right?
