Family Guy: Peter’s Daughter
By fred | November 26, 2007
(S06E07) Here we go with the second episode of Family Guy that creator Seth MacFarlane didn’t get to tweak and made final adjustment to before it was sent to the network, given that a strike is going on and the writers of this show, including MacFarlane, are picketing.
Last week, I thought we had a pretty disappointing episode. I’m not saying this was due to the absence of last minute tweaking – in fact, I doubt it was – but regardless the episode wasn’t really good, or funny. This week was better.
Doesn’t mean it was great, I’m not sure it was, but at least it was funnier. This episode was centered around Meg, the child the whole family likes to pick on. And you know what, I like it that way. Yeah yeah, poor Meg, doesn’t change the fact that I love it when they blame her for everything and just punch her for no reason. Maybe it’s cruel, but it’s not like she’s real anyway. Plus, it’s just funny.
So this week I loved it when, while she was drowning, all Peter could do was to complain about Meg’s incompetency and how she wasn’t even able to get him some beers, and instead was taking a nap, underwater. That was just right. Well, you know what I mean.
But then, Peter had a sudden and unexpected change of heart, as he realized he could have lost his only daughter. I thought he would be mad at Meg, if not for not dying then for wasting the beer, but that’s just me I guess. As I said I like it much better otherwise, so I wasn’t too pleased by this new attitude towards Meg, the bit I liked most about it was when Peter remember how he not always treated her well – cue to Peter hitting Meg and shooting her dead.
There’s also something that bothered me a little with this whole thing : Meg was dating the medical intern that took care of her at the hospital. Was I the only one who find that a little “weird” ? I mean, I don’t think she’s 18 and being an intern he’s probably closer to 25 than he is to 18, so that’s highly inappropriate. Plus, he looked like a young, cool and hot doctor, the kind of guy who’s got no problem finding a date.
Now why would he go out with Meg ? I mean, hasn’t she been described over the years as that uncool, unpopular, unattractive girl, the one everyone – and I literally, literally mean, everyone – pick on and make fun of, the one who could only have some nerds to be willing to go out with her. So why would that young doctor go out with her, for real, and not because Peter threatened him and begged him to give some hope to his doomed-to-die-alone daughter ?
It’s just like the fact that neither Peter or Lois cared that she was dating such an older guy. By the way, if those two had sex – which apparently they did – that’s not just inappropriate, that was gross too. Err no, it’s the new Meg, right, I forgot. What I meant was that it was illegal as well. But let’s be honest here : who thought Meg was telling the truth when she pulled out the pregnancy card ? Really ??
I never bought it one second, it seemed so fake and just a way to get attention. Besides, how could they have sex if Peter was watching them 24/7 ? Or did he just sit in the corner and watch ? You know what, he probably did, and liked it, and touched himself. Yeah, gross, but so was “Officer Nasty”.
