Family Guy: McStroke

By fred | January 14, 2008

Family Guy(S06E08) It’s been a while since we haven’t seen a new episode of Family Guy, a long while in fact. But Fox wasn’t fully done with the show yet, they still had one episode left for us, one last episode completed before the strike, even though the last tweaking were done without creator Seth McFarlane’s approval. This isn’t the first time, of course, as the last two episodes were done the same way, and quite frankly they weren’t all that hilarious (especially the first one of the two).

But I’m not sure that was (entirely) due to those last tweaking, and by that I mean I’m pretty sure it wasn’t. It was the plot, the jokes, they weren’t just that funny. What about this week ? Well, better. Much, much better !

Yes this episode was a much better one, so much in fact that I think it was one of the best of the season (so far?). I’m saying it was the best one of the season, simply because quite honestly it’s been a while and I don’t fully remember all episodes from this season, but I laughed my ass off watching that one, that’s for sure !

The only thing I would regret is that it didn’t end as well as it started. And it sure started well. “Black guy’s mail!” No, Cleveland was no where to be seen this week. In fact, apart from the Griffins there wasn’t really any known faces : no Pewterschmidts, no Quagmire, no Joe, no Herbert… in fact, we didn’t even get to see that much of Lois, Meg, or Chris. But it was alright, because we didn’t need them.

The first story had Peter to grew a mustache, and it was absolutely hilarious. The whole bunch of stereotypes about what it means to have a mustache, or the way “those people” behaves, was absolutely hilarious; and I have to say, maybe it’s because I don’t speak Italian myself, and rely solely on clichés from the movies, but I swear it looked to me as if Peter talked Italian, that was just how I imagine every conversation between two guys in Italy.

That first plot was great, and even the jokes were perfect. Really, how cool was that stupid horse leg joke ? I was laughing out loud for some time after that one, loved it.

Meanwhile, Stewie and Brian were watching TV. And while I may not watch One Tree Hill myself, anyone who’s ever watched a teen show set up in high school could relate to that joke, and there’s plenty of other shows like that out there ! It was great, the guys chatting in front of their lockers, the song, and, of course, Stewie’s remarks at the end of it : “I’m a freaking baby and I’m cooler than they are!Nothing but great stuff.

Then, in a “mustachy” move Peter saved some guy from a certain death, but it cost him his new and beloved mustache. It then moved on to another plot, the stroke. And once again that was a brilliant one, pretty damn hilarious. So were the jokes, starting with the one before that, were Peter had replaced his mustache with a new one, who looked quite like Brian. “Lois, would you mind calling the police, or something ? – Quiet, mustache!” Again, I was laughing out loud for some time there
