Entourage: Tree Trippers

(S05E05) Sometimes on Entourage, things are moving rather slow. I’m not sure this isn’t actually the natural pace of the show, you never have episodes so packed that it’s hard to believe so much could have took place in so little time, so it shouldn’t really be a surprise or nothing. As a matter of fact, if anything this show is more the complete opposite of such a thing.
This episode was the perfect illustration of how it is possible for an episode of Entourage to barely move the plot, if at all, it almost feels like nothing happens, and yet something must have happened since we just watched a new episode, and that half-hour was not boring at all, it was pretty fun actually and I did enjoy it.
In all fairness, by the time this episode ends the only difference between where we are now and where we were before, is that Vince made his decision, and he doesn’t want to do a crappy movie like Benji, he wants to be a fireman. Other than that, and maybe some new trouble for Ari at home, and thus Lloyd at work, nothing’s changed really. This episode was just that : the boys sitting, or walking through the desert, and making a decision.
And yet it was fun. Because it was a change of scenery, away from all the yelling of Ari over-stressed in the middle of a town where always many things are happening at once, this week everyone took some “magic mushrooms” and took time to relax for a bit, make things clear, Hell actually E even barely said a word!
But it worked, because Drama was finally Drama again, because you could see Vince’s pride in that he doesn’t want to be taken care of, he wants to make it, he wants to be successful, he also wants E to be successful, he wants to do be successful with a script E picked, he wants to help his best friend make it as well, Vince isn’t looking to be a superstar at any cost nor on his own, he is not trying to make things happening for him, but for the whole crew.
And despite a lot less yelling Ari was still great, and pretty funny. At first it may look nothing nothing happened during this episode, and maybe it won’t have much consequences (e.g. I’m not sure Turtle will really get or look for a(nother?) job…) but it showed what the show is all about in the first place : Vince, E, Drama and Turtle trying to make it in Hollywood, and trying to do so while keeping true to themselves, while having fun, but not without doing any piece of shit just for the money.
We’ll see how it goes from here, what Vince will have to do to get the movie he wants, or if he can even get it. I gotta say, I think I might be hoping he doesn’t, because I want to see something else than them/E finding the future great script and Vince getting on board, sounds too much like what’s been done in the past (except in the end it sucked). Plus, I wouldn’t mind some struggle as E got a great offer for the writers of the script he represents, while this meant leaving Vince on the side…
