Entourage: Gotta Look Up To Get Down
By fred | October 20, 2008
(S05E07) Before I started watching this episode, during the opening credits, I was thinking of where things were at this point and how close they were to what they once used to be. Like before, Vince was broke and needed to do a big hit, not just for the money - thought he’s broke - but also to get more (studio) work in the future, to become the movie star he’s supposed to become.
And as before, he wasn’t willing to settle with studio crap, no he wanted to do that little script that came out of nowhere and was discovered by no other than E, of course. It isn’t really anything new, and it looked like the show was just going into a direction he’s gone before… and then, I watched this new episode.
A new episode that was pretty awesome for many reasons. Of course, we had lots of good laughs, Ari being Ari, girls everywhere in the pure tradition of the show and the behind-the-scenes of Hollywood, I also absolutely loved the new status E got from his new title, and how models are now coming on to him because they want to become actresses, very good stuff.
And of course, came this idea of change. As we all know, change isn’t good in TV land, most of the times nothing ever changes, because people are scared of change, because we all love Ari for who he is, that insulting mouthful agent willing to do anything to get what he wants. So of course, when he got offered a brand new position, to become a studio head, it was something.
Obviously it’s incredibly exciting, for him and for us, because should it happen it could take the show in a brand new direction, and after five years that might just be what the show needs. At the same time, if Ari can’t be Ari, there’s a risk, as with any change. I don’t know if they will go with it, I don’t even know if I want Ari to take the job or not, but I’m leaning towards yes.
More than the gold Rolex, it was a crappy day at work with Jeffrey Tambor coming in and a couple of kids willing to write for Peter Jackson that made Ari realize a change of things could be welcome, but as he told his wife he has a couple of clients he actually cares about. One of them, maybe the most important one to him, obviously being Vincent Chase.
Sure, taking the job means he could help Vince, but it also means things would change for the two of them, Ari couldn’t be his agent no more, not even just with only him as client. But it could be the occasion for E to try and get his own career a boost, after all it’s not like he’s doing much these days, does he even care about his other clients ??
I don’t know what Ari will do, but I can’t wait to find out… and I hope he goes for it. I loved the moment when he told Vince, as they both were getting into a different private plane to different places. Ari wasn’t traveling the world for Vince (a bit pretentious right there?), but he cares enough to told Vince what was going on. And you could tell by the look on his face that he does care, there’s no question.
When Vince said he’d like for them to finish what they started, it did mean a lot to Ari. We all know he doesn’t care about a lot of things or people, but much like Vince and his entourage, Ari cares about the boys and share more than just a agent-client relationship, it goes deeper than that, there’s also a friendship. It was an awkward scene, both of them slightly uncomfortable as they weren’t sure how to react, but I can only hope that this won’t come into either them, or Ari and the offer.
In other news, despite being broke Vince is still letting go one million dollars because a girl got fired because of him. It’s not really because of him, and she hasn’t been fired fired, she’ll just work on another shoot/campaign, but still it bothers Vince and in the end, also because he doesn’t want a guy to suck his cock, he will drop the whole thing. After all, it’s not like the guy was broke, lost his car recently because of it, and didn’t had any new job offers coming up…
A very good episode of Entourage, and a lot of possibilities for the future. I’m very excited about it and I can’t wait to find out. Lastly, it’s always such a treat to listen to Radiohead, just for that this was an awesome episode.
What do you think Ari should do ? Do you want him to go work for the studio, or do you want him to remain an agent just for Vince, who’s not always showed the most enthusiasm and dedication to becoming a movie star, let’s be frank ? Do you think E could manage taking care of Vince on his own after that, or should they get someone else ? What? Who’s Amanda? Why do you mention her?
