Entourage: First Class Jerk

(S05E08) It’s been a while now already, since Medellin was a huge failure, probably the worst ever in a long time, and it’s been about as long since Vince told Ari that he was ready. He was ready to fight back, get in the game and become a movie star, for real. After that, things slowed down a little and last week, while Vince was still having fun, we saw a possibility of change heading the way of one Ari Gold.
Of course, him being close to Vince and them being friends, this wasn’t going to have an impact on Ari’s career only, it would also have repercussions on Vince’s career, the first of all being about that movie he’s been dying to do and, since Edward Norton is still involved on the project, that should actually be a really good one.
So, was Ari take the offer and become a studio bitch, for no less than $10 million ?? Of course we wanted to think that was a possibility, I wanted to believe that it could happen, but changes isn’t really welcome in TV land and so, quite predictably, Ari won’t leave, he’s still Vince agent and nothing is going to change. It’s probably a little disappointing, I won’t hide that, but at the same time there’s hope for a change.
Or, at least, a return to the basics of the show. Because it used to be about Vince becoming, and then being, a movie star. Alas, after one hit he soon dove into Medellin and retired on a beach somewhere, away from the shame as every one in America seemed to have been hating on the movie. For a long time now it seemed like the plot wasn’t really moving forward, everything was stuck and not going anywhere.
But Ari did not just turned down the offer, he got his old whore friend Dana on the job, making things quite well for him, as well as fucking Amanda over which was really the first goal here. So, as always on Entourage, in the end it all turned out for the best for our boy Vinny, who’s going to star in Smoke Jumpers after all. Nothing unexpected in the end, but it was pretty fun to see Ari struggle and have a little reunion with Amanda, still.
Other than that, I think it’s fair to assume by now that Charlie didn’t tell E, cause he did get Vince to agree to star in that pilot project of his (because then, like a few weeks ago, TV wasn’t such an insult, or something), but went on to find another manager, someone who will actually care for him and try to find him work. Cause really, could E ever exist outside of Vince ? Doesn’t look that way…
Now we have to talk about Turtle of course. This one again was pretty predictable, you knew that Jamie-Lynn Sigler wouldn’t be around for a lot of episodes, if more than this one, and it was more than obvious that as soon as Turtle said she jerked him off on the plane, Drama would spread it all over town and it would eventually come and bite him in the ass. Although, while I thought she did like Turtle, up until the end I didn’t think that was true either.
But I have to say, while fun this whole thing was disappointing to me, because I liked the idea of seeing Turtle in a brand new light, and he seemed pretty at ease and cool hanging with Meadow Soprano, and it would have been interesting to see him finally in a relationship and do have something to do. Sadly though, as Drama said, everything was reset to normal by the end of the episode, so there you go.
A pretty good and fun episode, and now we just have to hope that Vince will really become a movie star and we’ll get to enjoy a fun ride of craziness in Hollywood, not on the side of it as the boys have mostly stayed lately.
What did you think of the episode ? Disappointed Ari didn’t become the studio head ? Did you believe Turtle or were you sure it was a lie ? Do you think Smoke Jumpers will be a huge hit and put Vincent Chase’s career back on track ?
