Eli Stone: Waiting For That Day
By fred | April 14, 2008
(S01E12) This week is a very special week when it comes to Eli Stone. Not only because this will be the week we will see the last episode of the season, and sadly it might also be the last one of the series, but let’s hope not. But there’s more than that : it was a Sunday night and we had a new episode ! The finale is coming on its regular timeslot, Thursday at 10.00, but for now and right after a new Desperate Housewives came the first of the two episodes of this week.
And let’s be honest : you can never have too much Eli Stone. This show is really good, and what amazes me the most about it is how much it’s evolved, and gotten better. Not that at first it was bad, but it was nowhere near as good as it’s become, and if at some point I seriously considered to stop watching, I’m glad I didn’t because now I am hoping ABC will renew it for another season, I really am, cause I want more.
A few weeks ago Eli had a vision, a vision of an earthquake. He had people to leave their homes and Patty to be mad at him, because there was no earthquake. But as we all knew all along, that was only because, as with any good things, you have to wait for the right time. And this episode was the right time, the time the earthquake Eli had seen would actually occur, and this episode was all about that event.
I have to say that at first I thought we wouldn’t get it until the season finale, but I guess I was wrong. Just like I was wrong to think it would prevent Eli from going along with the surgery, and I have to say I really don’t get the guy. Seems like he’s got a pretty good chance of not making it, if he goes on and ask to have his aneurysm removed.
Yes, his visions have been a problem for him, and he even started to doubt them, that they really meant anything and that he actually could see the future. Sure, said like that it makes sense, who wouldn’t think he’s crazy ? Except for dummy Maggie, of course, but she’ll believe anything so that doesn’t count.
Basically, for some time now his brain has been “talking” to Eli and proving him it was the real deal, and that he shouldn’t go with the surgery. There’s just no way for him, at this point, to ever doubt that. He knew about the earthquake, maybe it wasn’t clear to him at that time, but he knew where it would hit the most and ensured that no one would be there by the time of the hit. He also somehow found a way to get the Golden Gate bridge close, which is good since people would have died otherwise.
He saw, in a vision, Maggie’s Scott. He saw who he was, what he looked like and how he talked to her even though he had no possible way to know any of this. There is simply no way Eli can still doubt that his visions are only caused by his aneurysm. Of course, it may not be very easy to accept that you’re a prophet, but he knows what he saw, he knows that in a few years, he’ll be the head of a movement called “Live Brave” that made him a celebrity, so he can’t still doubt his visions.
Which is why I’m puzzled that he seems to still be willing to go for the surgery. Especially since he could decide to hold on, and wait some more. It’s not like if he doesn’t get it done today, he won’t be able to do it next week, month, year, or decade. And with every week now, people seem to be more accepting of his “condition”, maybe he should reconsider things, seriously, before he let people invade his brain!
Besides, he cannot possibly stop having visions, that would kill the show.
