Eli Stone: Praying For Time

By fred | March 21, 2008

Now I said this show wasn’t afraid is having its character to evolve, and once again they are proving it. If Eli had been accepting his status of prophet these past weeks, this time he stopped. He stopped believing it when meeting with Patty in Church, and quite frankly all she said makes sense, especially since she doesn’t know all that Eli’s seen. And it makes sense that Eli would believe it too, or simply want it to stop.

Eli StoneBecause even if he still believes he can see the future, and that his visions are more than just lucky coincidences, and to be so right every week they have to be, Eli is just tired of it all, sick and tired of hurting everyone around him, everyone he loves, and who could blame him? That’s why this week, for the first time ever, he actually got angry, and yelled even ! Now I don’t think for one minute that he’ll actually have an operation, and his tumor removed, and I could see an actual Earthquake to take place next week, but that didn’t took anything away from that last scene.

Talking about Earthquakes and Eli visions, I have to admit that ever since that opening scene, I was hoping that there would actually be an Earthquake, that everything would start shaking, and that Eli would think it was a vision again and not believe it, while everyone around him would be running and screaming. I thought it could be funny, and I know they did that recently with the George Michael concert, but somehow it didn’t really work for me then. I thought this one could work better, and I still think it could happen next week.

Either way, it was stupid of Eli to panic and scream when at Chen’s, because when he saw Chen didn’t react, he knew it was a vision, so why give in to it, why not resist it like he did facing Taylor, when she & Maggie went into a musical ?

The fact that there’s no Earthquake might be meant to have Eli, and us, doubt his visions. But so far, 100% of the time they were telling Eli what case to work on, and sometimes even helped him on how win, or how to help people beyond the actual case. At this point I think we’re past the point of no return, those visions - as well with Eli’s father vision of the future, too - there is just no way it could be coincidence, luck, or anything else but him actually “seeing the future”. Which is why I think next week we’ll have an Earthquake, but I might be completely wrong on that one.

And a few words about the other people working there, and the other case finally coming to an end. Now of course she did do that on purpose, of course it was a plan to get her husband to walk free, you could tell from the moment her lawyer starting to yell, that she was lying and it wasn’t coached, and it was more than obvious after she and her husband shared a look, indeed. Before that, and for one moment, I actually even thought it had been orchestrated by one of the lawyers, maybe Jordan himself.

But it wasn’t, and instead we had a potential new replacement for Eli as successor of Jordan. I wonder if this is actually going to matter or not, because there’s always usually two stories on the show, one with Eli, Maggie, Patty, and maybe Taylor, and another one with the rest of the firm.

All in all it was another real good episode of a show that I find myself liking a little more every week these days, so I’m really glad I didn’t give up when at some point I was becoming frustrated with it, because it really improved over time. And for that only, I say it deserves another season.

One last thing: Eli questioning Patty only to have her to make objections was absolutely hilarious!

I have to say, that musical part pissed me off so much, and I like musicals. I just don’t want them to play up the love triangle, cause it’s wicked stupid. I mean, at least it was a good song…but still. And there will almost dsefinately be an earthquake next episode. I will be greatly disappointed if there isn’t. And it was nice tosee Eli lose his cool for once. But I can’t stand that he tried to kiss Maggie. I have to say that I did like her reaction when he told her though. I think he’s tired of keeping it a secret, and what he needed was someone who was going to be understanding, and she was. And all of Patti’s objections in court were awesome. Oh, and him getting the aneurysm removed may just happen, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the visions would stop (which would suck for him).

lol, funny cause as I said, I’m not a fan of musical but I liked it. But I agree that the whole love triangle made/makes me sick, I can’t stand it.
I’m fine keeping Maggie around as long as there’s no such thing, that’s how much I hate it!

About the aneurysm being removed, I don’t think it will happen, because without it the visions couldn’t be explained by anything, and while we and Eli (and Chen) may go with the prophet theory, everybody else (starting with his boss…) would have to go with “he’s actually crazy” - and he couldn’t practice law then, at least I don’t think they’d let him.
