Eli Stone: Praying For Time
By fred | March 21, 2008
(S01E08) Once again after Lost, it was time for another hour with Eli Stone. In his short existence there are things this show has always been able to do, like get me really annoyed and filled with mind with ideas of murders whenever I see Maggie. Or, keep having everything and and everyone evolve, the show kept getting better & better episode after episode, and that is something you have to appreciate.
It hasn’t had fantastic ratings, but it’s not been doing terrible either, and maybe now that Lost is gone more people might actually try to watch it, instead of watching Lost all over again. I mean, I would really like it if this show could be renewed for a second season, it’s turning to be one very nice show that I enjoyed tuning in to every week. And to be honest, though still featured in this episode, I think I was slightly less annoyed with the character of Maggie than I have been with previous episodes.
Of course, this may have to do with the fact that by the end of it, she was gone ! But seriously, she wasn’t around that much, and whenever she was she almost always managed not to be a complete moron, almost. And for her that’s a pretty good accomplishment worth noticing.
But while that was going on, and I really really hated the whole love triangle they started, with Eli in the middle of Maggie and Taylor. That really doesn’t work for me. Maybe it’s because I hate Maggie so much, maybe it’s because it’s a very old cliché, maybe it’s because it sounds maybe a bit too much like Ally McBeal, but I hated that part.
That said, I really liked the little musical bit we got this week. It was right on that love triangle, but it sounded pretty good and watching it, and as much as I hated to see Eli in the middle of the girls, I have to say I actually liked the act - and I’m not really a fan of musical !
Now since we’re on that topic, let’s continue to talk about Maggie. She’s a moron. Eli had things pretty hard this week, with not one, not two, but three women making his life crazy. And I can understand that he wanted people to believe him, that he could see the future. But really, if Maggie wants to avoid you that’s a blessing, don’t try to go against it!
And why would he even tell her that he could see the future ? As he said, the people closest to him did not believe him, the woman he was engaged to, his own brother, all thought he was crazy. Why would he tell her ? She couldn’t help him when it comes to actual legal work even if she tried, and what could possibly make him think that she’d react any other way ? And more importantly, what the fuck was that reaction !!? Tell her she’s amazing, and trying to kiss her ?? Come on, she’s a moron !
And I’m sorry but her reaction isn’t her being amazing, not even close. She’s not even questioning him, he says he can see the future, she agrees. Like that, no question no nothing. That’s not because she has faith in him, but because she’s stupid. Actually believing him, is what Patty did - and I thought it was unfair or Eli to say she didn’t believe him, because she went against off her beliefs and had people actually accepting the offer.
No, it didn’t work, but she did believe Eli was not crazy, was - or might be - telling the truth, seeing the future. She actually thought about it, and decided to believe it, and I think that was showing a lot more support than an idiot taking for granted anything he could say just because she doesn’t have a brain. Really, Eli, keep her in your fantasy, dancing & singing for you if you want, but that’s all.

I have to say, that musical part pissed me off so much, and I like musicals. I just don’t want them to play up the love triangle, cause it’s wicked stupid. I mean, at least it was a good song…but still. And there will almost dsefinately be an earthquake next episode. I will be greatly disappointed if there isn’t. And it was nice tosee Eli lose his cool for once. But I can’t stand that he tried to kiss Maggie. I have to say that I did like her reaction when he told her though. I think he’s tired of keeping it a secret, and what he needed was someone who was going to be understanding, and she was. And all of Patti’s objections in court were awesome. Oh, and him getting the aneurysm removed may just happen, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the visions would stop (which would suck for him).
lol, funny cause as I said, I’m not a fan of musical but I liked it. But I agree that the whole love triangle made/makes me sick, I can’t stand it.
I’m fine keeping Maggie around as long as there’s no such thing, that’s how much I hate it!
About the aneurysm being removed, I don’t think it will happen, because without it the visions couldn’t be explained by anything, and while we and Eli (and Chen) may go with the prophet theory, everybody else (starting with his boss…) would have to go with “he’s actually crazy” - and he couldn’t practice law then, at least I don’t think they’d let him.
