Eli Stone: One More Try
By fred | February 29, 2008
I know I spend a lot of time on her, but she’s on screen a lot and there’s not one single thing she does that’s useful, not one time don’t you want to punch her in the face. At this point I’d say she’s ruining the show, bringing it down. Might be a bit unfair, but I don’t care I’m pissed. Plus, I’m not really sure it’s unfair.
But the problem is that she’s not the only thing that doesn’t work properly on this show. Take Patti, she’s no friend to Eli as we’ve seen before, and I really hated the way she and Maggie treated Eli, when he took this week’s case. Just because he’s defending a big corporation doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy, or doing something wrong, or that his client is guilty !
I couldn’t stand that this week, because it’s not like Eli was doing some pretty bad things or quite obviously defending a company that was guilty but trying to get away with it because they got money. No, clearly the guy was angry, took off in the middle of the night and drove his car while drunk. Clearly, he was responsible in what happened that night. I’m not trying to say it’s all his fault, after all as we found out later the company did hide a witness, because they had a report that their SUVs weren’t as secure as they should be.
That absolutely does not mean it’s what caused the accident. Again, the guy was angry and had too much to drink, so clearly both parties have their responsibilities in that accident. So for those two bitches to judge Eli just because he was only doing his job and trying to get the truth to come out, was despicable. (Don’t they know where they’re working here ?) And so was trying to pass this as the normal and expected behavior for anyone with a conscience. I mean we were nowhere near what some of the lawyers did in The Practice, clearly using the law and tricks to free their clients, who they knew were guilty of selling drugs or killing a few people.
Then, okay. With such cases it would have been totally understandable, but with this case, it just made me more angry. And then you had that moron of Maggie who kept being stupid and asking for respect, why can’t she die already!!?
Adding to that a completely useless Dr Chen, or the fact that apparently before the new hires of the week, there was not one lawyer in the firm that wasn’t a white man (since Taylor was asked for help because she was a woman, otherwise - read, if Matt had been needing help from a Black guy - he would have been asking Keith), I just really didn’t like this episode.
Also, I don’t get it : Eli broke up with Taylor, then they have sex. Then he tries to call her but she won’t answer or call him back. Seems like she’s pissed and doesn’t want to talk to him. Then, we find out that she came working here only to be around Eli, because she still loves him, wants to be around, and would love nothing more but to go have dinner with him. Wait, what? Maybe answering his phone might have helped then, don’t you think ?
Moving on. Last week I was glad to see that Eli was trying to fight his vision, sadly it didn’t last. There’s one scene that is a perfect example of what I mean : for this first time Eli had a vision while in the middle of a trial. And at first it looked like he would fight it back, but then the idiot just gave in and started to dance, sing along and clap his hands ! What!!?
I mean really, WTF!? Hasn’t he learned anything during the past few weeks ? This scene was absolutely stupid. And I would have loved it so much better to see him trying to keep his calm and deliver his speech while all around him people were dancing and singing. This would have actually been a lot more fun, a nice contrast, and could still end up back in reality with Eli looking “odd”, screaming for no reason (well, for him everyone was singing so he needed to be heard).
Now this would have been a good scene I would have enjoyed I’m pretty sure, maybe even made me laugh. But that, once again, this moron gives in and finds himself singing & dancing, in court, was just plain stupid to me. And so when, in the end of this episode, this comes back to bite him in the ass as he’s getting sued, my first reaction was to think that it’s totally deserved, it’s his fault, since he didn’t even try to control himself.
And then I realized this : I don’t care. He’s getting sued, he’ll whine about this too a lot, whatever, I really don’t care. Which us why I wonder if I should keep watching or not, because not only do I not care about the characters but I get way more annoyed or pissed at the show than I actually enjoy it. And unless Maggie dies, and Eli tries to fight his visions, I don’t see this getting any better. It’s a real shame, cause I liked the premise of the show and I thought it had potential, but it’s highly flawed and this episode had really nothing for me to enjoy…

I love the show. The first one blew me away especially. The secretary is the best!
I hope you don’t give up on the show too soon. Yes, Maggie is freaking horrific, but I think that if they run another season they will get rid of her. And I like the fact that he’s being sued, because it gives the plot a little more to it. Opens up some possibilities. I think that this could be a really good show, if they add some stronger characters and weed a few out. And I love the George Michael theme. I get a kick out of it. This is one of the few shows I’m actually watching on a regular basis. Please don’t give up on it yet!!!
Well I haven’t officially given up so far, and as I said we only have three more episodes of Lost coming, so unless I really can’t stand it I’ll probably watch three more episodes…
After that, Maggie better be gone ;)
