Eli Stone: One More Try

By fred | February 29, 2008

Eli Stone(S01E05) So I’m not exactly sure about the plans ABC has in store for this show. Right now it airs after Lost, and this will continue for three more episodes. After that, no more Lost. And when the show will come back, it will be at 10.00 after Grey’s Anatomy. What will happen to Eli Stone after its 8th episode aired, I have no idea.

You know that I don’t like to give up on new series too soon, if only because I hate it when networks do that so I feel I should start by behaving myself and actually give a show a real chance to grow and find its tone & rhythm. And if you’ve read my reviews of this show so far, you might wonder why I’m bringing this up when talking about Eli Stone.

The reason is simple : I just watched this episode.

Don’t panic, I’m not suggesting to cancel this show, but I’m really starting to question whether or not I will keep watching it. Last week I said that, despite its flaws, I liked the show. Not only that but some things seems to be getting better, so it was really good and I hade hopes that things would keep getting better & better until the point where I’ll just love the show, without much to complain about.

Sadly, after this episode, I see this isn’t the case, and I’m starting to doubt it will ever be. Watching this episode I realized that I was getting more annoyed and angry towards it than anything else, and that’s probably not a good sign. I hate Maggie, I freaking hate her, I wish she would die already !

This is my first problem with the show, Maggie. She’s a fucking moron. There’s just no other way to put it. She’s not just stupid, annoying, clueless when it comes to law, irritating, unable to deal with clients, she’s all that and so much more, at once, all of the time. And with every episode it seems obvious that they don’t realize it, because they don’t do nothing to try to fix this, so unless she dies very soon (preferably in an awful lot of pain) I’m not sure I’ll be able to stand it.

It’s not just her, it’s also that it reflects on every other character. Why would anyone hire such a dumb, naive, idiot to work in their firm ? Why in God’s name would Eli still agree to work with her ? How can anyone just continue to talk to the retard ? Just by being her she diminishes the value of every other characters around her, and there’s only one way to fix this now : she needs to die. Kill her, then have Eli fight for her at trial, and we’ll be happy with a little picture lost somewhere in a wall or on some desk. But she can’t stay there, no way.

It’s really a problem because when Eli ask her something like “Did you get your law degree by watching Legally Blonde a bunch of times ?” it’s not funny. It’s not, I’m not laughing, and I don’t think Eli is either. We’re all dead serious here, because there’s no other way she could have managed to do it. When she didn’t replied to that question, if I were Eli I would ask come back on it, and force her to reply, for real, because the answer might be a “yes” !

And again, it does make Eli look bad in the end, and I don’t just mean in front of a client or during a trial, but as a character : why would he bring her to Hawai in the first place ? So she could wonder whether a car company put a hit on someone they paid off to disappear ? Really ? Of course Eli is embarrassed by such stupidity, and he goes “Just ignore her“, but why the fuck did he bring her here in the first place, if it wasn’t to kill her and dumb the body somewhere, or just try to leave her here thinking - rightly I’m sure - that she’d be too stupid to find her way back.

At some point she said she’d like some respect !! No really, she did say that, I’m not sure she even meant it ! What an idiot she is, and why didn’t Eli point at her and laughed !?? “ha ha! Good one, moron!”

I love the show. The first one blew me away especially. The secretary is the best!

I hope you don’t give up on the show too soon. Yes, Maggie is freaking horrific, but I think that if they run another season they will get rid of her. And I like the fact that he’s being sued, because it gives the plot a little more to it. Opens up some possibilities. I think that this could be a really good show, if they add some stronger characters and weed a few out. And I love the George Michael theme. I get a kick out of it. This is one of the few shows I’m actually watching on a regular basis. Please don’t give up on it yet!!!

Well I haven’t officially given up so far, and as I said we only have three more episodes of Lost coming, so unless I really can’t stand it I’ll probably watch three more episodes…

After that, Maggie better be gone ;)
