Eli Stone: I Want Your Sex

By fred | March 28, 2008

Eli Stone(S01E09) Maybe there was no visions coming from a mysterious Island before it, but Eli Stone was still there, and he still had his visions. I have to say that if at some point I was annoyed with the show, I’m really happy I kept watching because it has really evolved and matured, the show kept improving over time and it’s now been, for the past few weeks, a really fun hour I’m looking forward to each week.

I’ve said it before, but not many shows can say they have actually been able to improve over time, many shows just stick with whatever they have at first and barely change anything over the course of their season, if not entire run. One thing that is really fun with Eli Stone, is that it never stopped and kept doing the same things over and over again, it’s constantly evolving (and improving).

During the first episodes it actually looked like the show was going to be the same thing week after week : Eli has some visions which lead him to a new case, while everyone around thinks he’s loosing it, his visions guide him and he eventually he wins the case after a little dance. But ever since Eli went on and decided to make it public, to let everybody know he had a brain aneurysm, things have changed.

And ever since, the show has always been evolving, it never stopped to simply do what had been done before, and it is really fun to watch this. This week, we had another very good episode. How good was it ? Let’s see… Maggie was nowhere to be seen. At all. So, yeah, pretty awesome, quite obviously! Patti wasn’t around either, but she still found a way to remind Eli of the way she felt, and there was also no earthquake after all. Disappointing, especially because so far each and every visions of Eli have had a meaning, or became true.

Even this week, his vision about Taylor and Matt meant nothing to the case, but it was to let him know what was going on with the two of them. So his visions aren’t just random, they always mean something, and we’re all waiting for that earthquake. Better be there next week as Patti returns! (Of course, the earthquake might not actually have been to be taken literally, there’s always that possibility…)

So Eli had another vision, and after a new musical bit he turned around to see no other than George Michael. For real. Yet another little special guest star for the singer, who this time had a lot more to do than just singing. But before that, we had some hilarious scene as Eli was sure he wasn’t real, but another hallucination of his. And oddly enough, what brought George here in the first place, was a dream. He was told to come to see Eli in a dream. I guess those two were meant to found eachother.

The case in itself wasn’t anything that special, really, but what was great was to see Eli and Jordan finally having to spend some time together, and not only Jordan as a fanboy of George was pretty hilarious (him quoting Faith and explaining it was pretty fun), but when he finally realized that - beyond the whole brain aneurysm thing - Eli was actually enjoying his new cases because of the way it made him feel.

That was really nice, and while I’m not sure it will actually go anywhere further than, even for just a moment, it was nice to see the two of them “reunite”. I think Jordan probably won’t change that much, because he can’t really afford to, but he liked this little memory of the past, even if he still puts Eli apart he will now “envy” him.

What I want to know is WHERE IS THAT EARTHQUAKE?!?!? I still think they’ll have it. And Eli definitely won’t have the surgery. And Oh My God No Maggie. It’s a miracle. If only they had thrown in an “oh by the way Maggie threw herself off a cliff”. Then we’d really be in business. I’m glad the thing between Taylor and Matt got over real fast, because it was lame. And I think Jordan will eventually make Eli head of the law firm, not Matt, cause Matt’s an ass. And I found it interesting that Eli had a vision about something other than a case. I think that that will get more intriguing as the show continues to progress. And I really like this show, so they better not cancel it.

Yeah, how awesome was it to have a Maggie-free hour ? If only that could last forever!

About the earthquake, I’m actually thinking we might not have had one because they kept it in store for the season finale ! I may be totally wrong, but it would be very TV-like to have a finale with Eli going in the hospital to have his aneurysm removed, and around that time : earthquake !

That would prevent him from being operated on, reinforce or restore his belief that his visions are “real” and that he’s a prophet, thus having him to change his mind on the operation, … Unless there’s no second season, and we could believe what we want, since the finale would end on the earthquake.

Another plus in this scenario : Maggie dies in the earthquake, she’s not around next season. I don’t know, but I’m in!
