DVR Cleaning - Part II : Super-Criminal Reaper
By fred | October 28, 2007
Here we go, I’ve just watched a few more episodes I had left waiting for me. I still got more waiting, but it’s like a never ending story, I can already see new ones coming in tomorrow night, and the next day, and the next day…
Well, actually I really hope they will, I don’t want a damned strike. I hope those stupid morons get the writers what they deserve so we can keep enjoying our great shows, because if there’s one thing I don’t want it’s more reality crap, reruns, or whatever shitty things they’ll come up with.
Anyways, if strike there is, it isn’t for tomorrow, and today we got reviews of Reaper, Criminal Minds and Supernatural. It was all good, well, mostly good.
Reaper: What About Blob
(S01E05) I’ve said many times that I really liked this new one, and I do like it, really. Sure, special effects aren’t really the best, and at times the mystery might not be that mysterious… but that’s not what really matters here. What’s important is that the show is funny, it truly is, and it never fails to deliver a fun hour of entertainment.
I also think that they’ve been able to escape the formula installed in the two first episodes, although - probably due to the way the show works - it is still a little always the same. I understand that they have to find out what the new vessel is, who the escaped soul of the week used to be, etc but I really hope that some time, sooner than later, they find ways to break out this scheme and find really different ways to have everything go down.
Sure, on a show like Buffy it was much easier to get there, especially since on Reaper, if you go outside the usuals there might not really be a reason for the Devil to be around, and we all know he’s got to be there. But maybe one episode could start when the gang already with a new vessel, fighting some monster. We would of course learn about how it all started, hopefully without flashbacks, and then the Devil might come around not to give clues on how to start, but how to end.
Speaking of the end, how about finding new “Hell on Earth” to deliver the vessel ?
About this episode, pretty much same as usual : Sock is the center of the funny, I laughed a lot, it was real fun. And the whole Sam/Andi relationship annoys me, it really does and they have to stop doing the same BS every time. The guy keeps complaining that he really likes her but he can’t tell her even though he whishes too, and that he doesn’t want to let her down or lie to her…
Yet, she keeps coming to him and asking him out and planning things for the both of them, and he keep letting her down and never showing up. This time because he got his contract delivered. But really, couldn’t he have called in and apologize ? Or, once done, then call, or go there, to apologize and at least show up! But no, apparently going back home and start reading the billion-pages-long contract came first.
So now that the Devil made it clear that he shouldn’t tell her the truth, for some reason — I mean he didn’t mind when he told the guys. My guess on this? It’s only to fuck with Sam. Just with the pictures with the twins! Remember he’s the Devil, he loves to see Sam struggling and failing (as long as it doesn’t affect his work), that’s how he’s having fun.
Anyways, now Sam needs to learn how to lie, or forget about Andi. I say lie.
And of course I need to mention the dad. Sure, they wanted us to wonder what’s up with him and the Devil, but really. Having the dad gets all weird when he sees the contract, and the Devil get pissed, or annoyed, for the first time ever at the mention if Sam’s father (and the eventuality of a meeting) was more than enough to get us wondering.
So why did he had to go crazy, yell and slam doors out of nowhere ? I’m sure he could have played it a little more calm and still find his way to throw a couple of pages in the fire.
