DVR Cleaning: My Name Is Scrubs, Chuck Who?

Samantha Who?: The Job

(S01E02) Well, obviously the rhythm of this episode was a little lower than the pilot, and it was already a bit less funny overall, and sure as hell it’s still as cliché and predictable as it ever was.

That being said, I watched the episode all the way through without ever being bored, and I found it a little funny. But while Applegate does a good job and can be funny, I feel that it looks that she is trying too hard at times. One rule of making good comedy is to make it look so simple, easy and natural. The show seem to rely almost exclusively on Applegate’s Samantha for the comedy, and as a result we can get that feeling that she’s trying too hard.

Chuck: Chuck Versus the Sizzling Shrimp

(S01E05) Okay, so I tuned into this one hoping this would be the one where sweetie Rachel Bilson would make her first appearance, but it wasn’t. That was a real disappointment, because the rest of the episode was the usual thing you find during an episode of Chuck.

ChuckIt’s not really interesting, the main plot isn’t that exciting, and quite predictable. Action sequences don’t really do it for me, and the humor is not funny. I know I say that every time, but having someone call Chuck, obviously watching him, while he can’t see her was I suppose a reference to the Bourne trilogy. But there was nothing to make us laugh there, so it was not funny.

Just like having Chuck and Morgan fight like little girls over fireworks doesn’t make them nerds, nor does it make us, or me, laugh. And yeah, sure, throwing in a Star Wars reference has a geek touch to it, but it wasn’t funny. The show ain’t exciting, interesting, or funny, it’s just not good.

And what the hell happened during that kitchen fight scene ?? Every so often the picture would freeze right before the punch want out. Was that supposed to be cool ? It looks awful and really break the whole intensity and the scene, if there was ever any. I hope it was done before in some movies, and they just did it again because that’s what they do, they redo what’s been done previously - without adding anything or improving it or making it funny.

Please, bring in the cuteness of Rachel in so that after I can definitely put this one behind me and forget about it.
