DVR Cleaning: Chuck and The Sarah Silverman Program
By fred | October 27, 2008
Yeah, I know, this one comes in a bit late, indeed… the week-end is already over with and we’re moving into a brand new week of TV, but I still had a few things on my DVR I hadn’t gone to yet.
I didn’t get a chance to get to it any sooner, sorry about that, but now that I have I thought I would talk about a couple of shows. So let’s not waste any more time and as a new episode is coming in tonight, we’ll begin by having a quick look at last week’s episode of Chuck first; After that we’ll talk about The Sarah Silverman Program.
Chuck: Chuck Versus The Cougars
(S02E04) As you may know already, I was never the biggest fan of Chuck. I didn’t really like the first season all that much, and yet I ended up, for one reason or another, watching the entire season. And almost as a logical step I came back watching this new season. Some things haven’t really changed for me, for instance I was never a fan of all the Buy More plots, which I never thought were that funny.
As for this new season, as I said for the premiere, I just can’t get past the very stupid idea that should they get a new intersect, Chuck could have his life back. They keep playing on that idea, which pretty much set the tone for the new season, but it’s simply not true. It does not make any sense, it’s like no one remembers the pilot and that Sarah & Casey weren’t there to “use” Chuck and go in missions with him, but protect him because he had/has all those (top secret) intelligence in his head. Whether they have another one or even a third intersect won’t change that.
But let’s get past that, the show is actually pretty fun, Chuck is enjoying the spy aspect of his life, and I thought this episode really worked pretty well. Not that the previous one didn’t, but this one was really fun, Chuck embraced his other identity, stealing all the fame from Casey, always fun, and even thought he was learning more about Sarah’s real identity — though this was only another, older set of lies.
I guess writers on this show have really no shame, so of course they had Sarah and her old buddy fight to take place in the shower, so they would get them both all wet. It could be too much, I thought it was, but it still made me laughs, it’s the kind of silliness that’s good and works for the show.
And for once, cause that really doesn’t happen all that much for me, I also really enjoyed the Buy More plot. It was also pretty silly, but once again the good kind, and it really made me laugh all the way through. Which is why I wanted to mention this episode, because with all the great stuff this episode had, I’m ready to call this the best of the episode so far - maybe of the series ?
The Sarah Program Silverman: Patriot Tact
(S02E10) Recently Sarah was involved in a story that didn’t entirely felt like herself, because she rapidly admitted she was wrong, and also because her friends didn’t forgave her just like that. This week, however, we were back to a pure Sarah Silverman story. She’s driving her car, sees a man with a beard, and instantly thinks it is Osama Bin Laden ! Of course…
So she tries to run him over with her car, and starts taking credit for her heroic gesture. Soon enough people realize that it was not Bin Laden, but she’s not really willing to hear that, all she cares about is her patriotism as she tried to do the right thing, and will continue to do so with every bearded man she’ll ever meet, even if she doesn’t have a car by then.
Of course people will try to reason her, but that can only push her more into her own vision of things, and she ended up making a play to make sure people remember 9/11, because they apparently had forgotten about it, a play which was pretty hilarious and ended with her willing to murder - with toasted bread I think? - anyone who just looked like Bin Laden, sort of, if you squint good enough.
It was almost a little like a South Park episode, but with a different style and less reactivity, in the way she was making fun of people’s reactions and behaviors to moke them while illustrating, in some hilarious way, how ludicrous and wrong it is. And wrong it was, in so many great ways!
Oh and, Laura bush.
