Criminal Minds: In Heat
By fred | May 1, 2008
(S03E17) Last week I was happy to see that finally we had a good episode of Criminal Minds since the strike was over, because much like when the season began, it wasn’t easy to get back on tracks. But they did, and now we can out all of that behind us and enjoy a show returned to its usual quality level.
As I’ve said before, this season has had some of the worst episodes of the show, but also some of the best ones. This episode was none of that, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t really great either. I was somewhere in the middle, a good episode, though nothing to really remember once it’s over.
It was a pretty usual case, and it went down much like it should. There was actually a little “twist”, as they had the name and picture of the unsub from day one, listed as one of the victim. That was an interesting touch, but other than that they showed up, investigated previous crime scenes, interrogated a few people, came up with a profile and soon ended up chasing the guy.
Again, they came, resolved the case, arrested the bad guy, Morgan flirted a little, and then they left. There is nothing to remember now that it is over, it was one of those cases that doesn’t really stand out or will be remembered, but not every case has to be the case of the year. And to be honest, after some really bad episodes, I am perfectly fine with an episode that is simply good, and this one was. It wasn’t (too) predictable, it wasn’t boring or too long, it was just good, and there’s nothing wrong with that, really.
Aside from that, we found out that JJ had been dating for a while now, something I don’t think we really knew up until now, and while this whole thing was a bit predictable it was still nice. The last scene with the whole team watching JJ kissing William Montagne was pretty predictable and common, also maybe a bit odd that they knew for how long they’ve been dating, because she seemed to be keeping it quiet and they could only know that if they actually “investigated” things, but I guess it was just for the joke, and I have to admit it did make me smile.
In fact, I liked that a bit more than the romance going on with Garcia, though it’s nice to see she’s keeping Xander Kevin around and that this didn’t just go away. About Morgan, I’m not so sure why he took the blame for not waiting for backups, since he clearly didn’t had any choice left and was forced to go in, maybe he’s really willing to come back and have a drink with Lopez.
Nothing great, nothing to really remember or talk about, but a good episode nonetheless and that’s nothing to complain about either. I wouldn’t mind it, though, it next episode could be actually more than just good…
