Criminal Minds: 3rd Life
By fred | January 10, 2008
Well, not this time ! Hell Yeah!
As I said, I was already sure they wouldn’t do it, but they did, he blew his head off right there, in front of her daughter, and a helpless Reid. Not only that, but because he’s such an important witness, he’ll walk free. Seriously, I loved it, I freaking loved it! Although, I do wonder if the father of Kathy will actually be charged, since he obviously tipped Jack in.
Anyways, this episode was really awesome, a very good ride with a great ending, I really don’t think it could get any better than that.
Well, no actually it could have been a little better. I’ll have two scenes that I need to address. The first one, I still can’t decide whether it was good, or completely lame. Really, you’ll tell me, cause I don’t know : when Hotch and Prentiss are on the street, looking and analyzing the behavior of the two teenage girls having a smoke next to the theater. What was that scene like ?
I can’t tell if it was good, or really bad. I tend to say the later, but I’m not sure, maybe it’s because she was standing there with her arms straight down against her body, which looked somewhat weird and reminded me of that Seinfeld episode with the girl who walks without moving her arms… I don’t know.
But the one scene, or couple of scenes, that really weren’t as good as the rest of the episode, were the scenes with Lindsey. No, I didn’t know she was portrayed by Joe Mantegna’s real life daughter, Gina Mantegna, before I watch the episode, and no it didn’t bothered me, she did do quite a good job. But for starter, her breaking some teeth when trying to shut down the water was a bit too much I felt, but the really bad thing was that, at first, the bad guys, when they were still kept in the dark, only heard and shown as shadows, they were good, evil guys.
But once the light was spread on their faces, not only did they loose a lot of their “evil charisma”, but they turned stupid. Really, what was the reason they had to come in, talk about their plan, what they’ll do, and argue in front of Lindsey ?? Why not do that anywhere else, as they most likely did before, what was the reason for them, and then him, to always come inside and stand on front of her, when they needed to talk, and pass a phone call (which BTW was likely to work much better outside the restrooms I’d day, but…) ?
There’s only one reason : it was to put Lindsey in front of the camera, and to give her something to do, or say. So she knew about everything that was going on, and could talk to him, etc and that’s pretty lame. Really, it’s one of the clichés I would have been delighted to do without, and it’s not like he couldn’t have come to rape her even without their little chitchat before hands, so he’d still have been facing as her father comes in, gun in hands.
That whole thing wasn’t the best. It wasn’t the worst they could have done either, and if I have to choose, I’d much rather have the talk, but he gets killed by Jack, than no talk and no killing at the end. Without question.
There’s definitely no doubt that Criminal Minds is fully back, delivering some of their best episodes I would say. I’m not sure if everyone loved True Night as much as I did, but this one was maybe even better, and if you wanted more of the BAU in a more “classic” episode, you had it, so what’s not to love ?
Awesome episode, loved it, I can’t wait for the next one. But we’ll have to wait a little, as the next one is not planned for next week, but January 23rd.
