Cleaning my DVR: Criminal Heroes, My Name Is Reaper

My Name Is Earl: The Gangs of Camden County

(S03E03) I am not sure I like this new Earl, the one in jail that is. And now that he’s brother found his way in as well,  without breaking the law, I’m even more worried. One thing I miss most about the show, are the “flashbacks”. Whenever Earl would choose a number off his list, we’d get a flashback on what he used to do, we would see what he, and Randy, did that deserved to be put on the list.

And yes, I always enjoyed those moments of “bad Earl”. But while he’s in jail, we don’t get as much of those. I’m sure he’ll meet more people from his list there, but I do miss them, and the way he, Joy and “Crab man” would all interact together at some point. I miss all of that, and where’s Catalina ??

Overall, not such a good episode I thought. Not a bad one, but not as funny as they’ve been in the past. I’m starting to wonder if I shouldn’t stop watching this one, and save them for next summer, or whenever all the other series will be on a break…

Reaper: Charged

(S01E02) Another pretty good episode of what is shaping more and more every day in to a nice little show every one should love. It’s always pretty solid, funny, and the chemistry between Sam and Sock is just great. I know Sam is the one working for the devil, he’s the one with the powers and everything, but I think Sock is quickly turning to be the best character on the show, definitely the center of everything funny.

I mean he’s the reason, amongst many other things, for that opening scene, when they left the box in the woods, or tried to, and it was hilarious. A new episode, and it was again funny all the way, never felt stretched out or anything, actually the opposite. Our three guys are fighting demons with a style that was never seen before, and weapons, or vessels, that are also, well, unusual.

ReaperEach week we get a new vessel, a new demon, and a new disguise. This time it was, well, I’ll let Sock describe it : “I feel like a giant condom!

This was all good, although I do hope they don’t get stuck within a formula and are able to shake things up soon enough. Often compared to Buffy, or references are made at least, it was a show where they manage to have, while on the same idea to fight a new monster every week, episodes that did not feel like the same formula applied over again every week where only the monster and a few other things changed. Hopefully, Reaper will follow that lead.

There was just one thing I really didn’t liked, or understood : what the Hell was Sam’s problem, wining all over the place again that he doesn’t want the job, hunting demons isn’t his thing, and whatnot !??

It was like the pilot all over again, only this was the second episode, you know, the one where events occur after whatever took placed during the pilot, such as Sam complaining about it only to change his mind, I mean am I crazy or did he end the pilot with “I think I do, I think I want to” - talking of course of being the bounty hunter for the Devil ?

I got really annoyed by his non-stop complaining, even more so because it was supposed to be over. I swear to God if he starts complaining again next week, or well, next episode, I stop watching.

In the mean time, of a couple of great funny lines, randomly chosen :

- The devil just pretty much sets me up for failure.
- Well, he is the devil!

- Alright so what should we do ?
- We hunker down, cow boy up and fight the bastard until he’s back in Hell where he belongs!
- Or we could run like little girls. That’s my vote.
