Cleaning my DVR: Criminal Heroes, My Name Is Reaper
By fred | October 8, 2007
This season is filled with lots of shows, good and bad ones, and there is just so many I can’t watch them all in time. Actually, I called this “cleaning my DVR”, but it’s not empty, I still have yet to watch some shows from last week !
Anyways, here we go again, looking at Criminal Minds, Heroes, My Name Is Earl and Reaper. Almost only good stuff. Kind of.
Criminal Minds: In Birth and Death
(S03E02) Surprised is how I feel after watching this episode. Not so much that Gideon didn’t commit suicide, that was more into character and a much better choice anyways, not to mention it allows for Patinkin to do a guest during to series finale, whenever that will be.
My surprise was not in how he left, which was accomplished in very smart and well done manner I thought, it was in the way all the other characters react to it, or did not, actually. Because apart from a couple of “where is he?” here and there, but really not that much, no one seemed to care. Maybe his absence was under appreciated because he wasn’t the only one missing/leaving, the whole team was falling apart, but it still felt odd.
The case in itself was pretty good, as always with the show, the resolution for the team was outrageously cliché, even the way to get there actually, with the chief not knowing the how’s, ways and means that must be used but still giving orders as she whishes, trying to be tough only to faint as she saw the victims, and to hear that the reason they were able to solve the case came from no other than Hotcher, the very same one she was trying to eliminate.
Speaking of which, if he did not lost his family on this one, he’s a very lucky guy. Cause after what his wife last said, I thought to myself “he’s coming back to an empty house”.
Politics, as Prentiss calls it, will still play a somewhat important role in the next episode, as everyone will learn about Gideon’s departure and his replacement will have to be found. As long as they can manage all of this without impacting the quality of the show, and keep focusing mainly on the case they work on, I’m still in.
Heroes: Lizards
(S02E02) Why bother. It’s not that I don’t watch the show no more, I still do – for some weird reason I can’t really express with words, or anything else that makes sense for that matter. No the problem with the obnoxious pretentious so-called hit that is Heroes and the fact that it’s turned into its first season finale, it’s growing on this shit instead of improving.
Sure, I did not start watching the new season with a positive feeling in mind, but that doesn’t mean I was to hate the show/season, just that I was inclined to do so. But it’s easy to win me over : just deliver great episodes one after the other.
No really, it is that simple. I mean, Lost totally did it last season, and I went from “I think I hate the show and might very well stop watching soon” to “I fucking love it, I can’t wait for it to be back” only due to their brilliant work, and best season to date. Sadly, Heroes is no where near this, nor is it heading that way.
After a hollow “save the cheerleader, save the world” that went nowhere and faded away miserably, a finale so bad it still hurts when thinking about it, we get to see that no one actually died, not even the missings such as Sylar, Niki and the others. And we’ve yet to be introduced to the hundreds of new characters they’re hired people for, or did that start already ?
Don’t get excited by the news of a missing Niki, that may be true, yet BS filler boring stories are still around, should it be with Matt, Hiro, Claire, Suresh, oh wait, every story is uninteresting and really boring. Again, they’re separating Hiro from everyone else, fans included (or so it feels like) and turning him into an annoying cliché, while he used to be a great character. Worst decision ever. Are they trying to make us hate the show ?
Claire is “struggling” with having to hide her true self ? Again ? Not only is it the exact same plot as in season one, it’s also done in a much worse and poor way. She’s told to hide and play it low, go unnoticed, first thing she does is put her hand into a flame ? And we’re supposed to find it surprising, or exciting, or just interesting that “someone” managed to found out? Please. (ps: did she really lost her car ? Already ? What is it, Nissan had only paid for one episode ?)
Parents sharing secrets and getting killed. *snore* Are they dead yet ? Or shall I go back to sleep ? What? Peter suffers from amnesia, doesn’t know who he is, what his powers are, blah blah blah yeah I think I’m falling asleep, go on.
Again, that’s a little of a season one feeling, and I already know how badly it ends. No thank you.
