Chuck: It’s not what it looks like…

By fred | July 26, 2007

ChuckThe show is supposed to be a mixed of action, and comedy. But the comedy isn’t funny, never (expect maybe once), and the action doesn’t look real, or good.

The main plot is retarded. So many (elements of the) plots do not make any sense… Sure they know how to shoot a TV show, and make good-looking pictures with good-looking people in it, but they apparently forgot a huge element required to make a good TV show : the script. You need a good script, and they don’t have that.

Let’s even forget the basis and look at the story : so a CIA agent and one from NSA were after Chuck, trying to get to him. Or kill him, they were still undecided on that one. And then as they are pointing guns to his face he’s “remembering” some info from the pictures, and he knows where the bomb is. Actually, they didn’t even know there was a bomb, so yeah he knows a lot. And they suck.

Of course he can’t just tell, because remember he’s a nerd so he loves danger and obviously runs towards it. Then, they’re all staring at that bomb ticking, and here comes Chuck, the perfectly calm and down-to-earth nerd, saving the day by being the only one with an idea. Because all nerds have computer-like brains and don’t panic under pressure.

ChuckAnyways, unlike all trained agents around he, Chuck, has an idea. Not related to its “visions” though, but to his work. And it sucks, it’s so bad that even before he said he had an idea I had started to pray to God so they wouldn’t resort to using that freaking retarded stupid cliché piece of shit. And I don’t believe in God, or anything remotely close. But it failed, of course, and they fucking did, of course.

You know, when I said I didn’t liked Burn Notice, I also said it had some good things, like when fighting it would kinda make sense. On Chuck, they got the other way around. We have the sexy CIA agent dancing, and at the same time kicking and throwing things around at highly trained NSA agents, and of course that’s enough to take them down for a few hours, I guess. Or they’re dead already?

Then there’s some love stories in the back, and they also added a little bit of lie and mystery, maybe conspiracy. It didn’t work at all on me, it was just lame. Really.

And while I don’t really have an idea of what the show will be like, I mean how they’ll be constructed. This episode was one to set things up, others will be daily “adventures”, and I have no idea how it will be done, i don’t see it working that good.

I mean, ok so he’s got some NSA and CIA info mixed together. Cool. But, today he knew when the general was coming to town and in what hotel the bomb would be and all those things because, well, he got very fresh data.
But in two weeks, or six months. No because one thing with intelligence is that there’s new development and changes every day, and old data isn’t really useful just raw like that. You need to work on it, analyze things and all things that don’t look good on TV; and you need to always update it. Will they update Chuck??

Chuck, a “comedic spy thriller”. The comedic part is not funny, and that’s usually not a good sign. The thriller part just sucks, but it’s made with good-looking pictures and girls in their underwear, so maybe people will watch it. Hopefully not.

Definitely more money behind this show than Burn Notice, but unlike USA’s show this one fails to have some good parts, so that you can have hope. Who knows, maybe it was just for the pilot, and when getting on “real” episodes (aka not settings things up) they’ll be able to adjust things. I highly doubt it will happen, though.
