Chuck: Chuck Versus the Wookiee

By fred | October 18, 2007

Chuck(S01E04) I never liked this new series. Many people see the way they redo classic moves from James Bond’s and other spy movies as “parody”, or tribute, or something like that. Apparently, seeing a stupid cliché still done the same way, as lame and seriously done as always, suddenly becomes a great, cool, funny even, thing as soon as it’s done on Chuck.

I never got into that. Because there are no parodic elements anywhere on the show, because they do it all taking themselves quite seriously. I never see any sign of self-depreciation or second degree or anything close. I simply don’t see it.

As far as I’m concerned, when watching each episode of Chuck, and this new one was no exception, I watch a boring, predictable, and not quite funny story that has no real appeal.

And that’s why there are cute girls in panties or bikinis. And yet another catfight, this time between a girl in her bath robe and her sister in a ninja costume. This is when teenagers get excited to the idea of an ass showing up, and starting whishing the show was on cable, cause girls would be fighting naked very soon then.

Sure, that’s always good, but that really isn’t enough to make me tune in every week. And I’m sure some people will like how Chuck is slowly evolving into a more confident character who start to get more aware of the whole spy game, I mean he did find a way to get the diamond and turn out to be quite useful a little.

But really, some parts of the plot and the characters’ behaviors are SO stupid, I just can’t sit & relax watching it. Would they not be so dumb, have better, clever writing and be funny, I would. But that means it would require to be a completely different series, because it becomes clear now that those “flaws” aren’t going to be fixed anytime soon as the show evolves, it is how they intend things to be.

For instance, when Chuck finds the diamond in Morgan’s bag, after his buddy told him how Katrina kissed him, the guy doesn’t think at any point that she might have planted it there herself, for some reason. Even after calling Sarah, neither of them seem to think that she could, maybe, come back to get the diamond. She very one she came here for, risk her life for, let Chuck & Sarah to die for, no really I don’t see either why she would come back to get it, I mean, unless you’re a genius who can see the future, you couldn’t see that coming.

Which is probably why Chuck couldn’t even put one and one together and realize it was her under the ninja costume until she let out a couple of words.

I don’t think I’ll keep watching the show, cause I simply don’t enjoy watching it. I will probably still keep an eye on it though only because next week gorgeous cutie Rachel Bilson is supposed to make her first appearance of a multi-episodes arc, so I’ll have to check her out see how that goes, but once she’s done with the show I’ll be too.
