Chuck: Chuck Versus The Truth

By fred | November 13, 2007

Chuck(S01E08) Here we are, the moment we’ve all been waiting for for some time now. Well, at least I have, I can’t say every one of you were excited too about having Rachel Bilson making her guest-star debut on this little show.

But then again, you probably were just happy to get to see another episode of a show you like, while that wasn’t the was for me because I’ve never really liked this one, and every episode seems to remind me of this. Besides, for now, and for me, it might be too late. But I would still like to be surprised by the show.

Anyhow, let’s cut the crap and dive into what this was all about. It didn’t take long before she actually graced our screens, and as an angelic Goddess she just walked in, smiled, and made my day.

No but seriously. Rachel Bilson’s character, Lou, simply walked in this is how it all began. And the whole thing, not limited to that first scene, wasn’t really bad but it was also a bit odd, like missing of bit of “credibility” or “realism”. But then again, it was very “Chuck” so I guess it’s only right to be done that way.

And quite frankly, it would have been me she wouldn’t have had to pay either. A smile and a sandwich is all that it takes, definitely. Actually, the sandwich wasn’t even necessary, the smile was more than enough. I liked the sandwich, though, really, lovely attention, appreciate it. Of course I liked her character, but that was pretty much a done deal before her part was even written.

They would have had really write a bad, stupid, awful character for me not to like her. And even then… But Lou was very much like one could imagine Rachel to be, or like her character on The O.C. - Summer - was. So there was nothing not to like. That said, piece of advice to anyone else out there : I don’t care if they’re named Chuck, you find him cute and he’s wearing the store’s uniform : you simply don’t give away your phone, PDA or whatever to a stranger and then just leave. Especially if that thing holds your whole life !

Now that we covered the obvious part about how we all love Lou, and because that was the main plot in this episode - at times it even felt they kinda forget there was a bad guy and a whole spy plot underneath it all - let’s stay on it a bit.

We get it, they rehearsed even, they know each other(s’ favorite food and whatnot). Seriously, during that scene at the restaurant Chuck’s behavior was so odd and forced it almost seemed obvious they weren’t actually a “real” couple. Only missing part was one last line that would go something like “Yes, I know Sarah’s favorite food. I know her, we’re a couple, she’s my girlfriend. For real. This isn’t just a cover for some CIA/NSA/Spy kinda-deal. Nope, we really are a real couple, who knows about each others’ favorite meals. For real.”

Anyways, so because a new love interest for Chuck was introduced, it was of course also a time when Sarah and Chuck’s relationship had to go to the next level. They had to make love. Sweet, quick continuity question though : I know I might not follow the show that much but didn’t he asked Sarah to stay & wait in her room a couple of weeks ago, because Captain Awesome & his sister thought he was “getting lucky” ? But I guess it didn’t count, because back then Sarah didn’t loose any clothes…
