Chuck: Chuck Versus the Tango

By fred | October 10, 2007

Chuck(S01E03) This is no news that I never liked this show. From the very start, I thought it was a pretentious unfunny obnoxious show that tried unsuccessfully to be funny while, as a parody according to some, re-using old cliché without any sign of such parodic elements. They were not making fun of [insert cliché here], they were not moking it, they were simply doing it.

I fail to see how it is funny. That’s for one. Second thing, the whole action thing. Not good. Reusing lame ideas over hollow plot cannot be an enjoyable thing, not done like that. Now add to this the basis of the show, which makes absolutely no sense at all, I can understand why ratings are dropping.

New week, new episode, I was still around.

But I don’t think that will last for long anymore. Because once again, I really not liked nor enjoyed this episode. For starter I cannot get over that stupid premise. Okay, let’s pretend that I’m okay with NSA and CIA having all their data stored into one single unique place, against all common sense, and that it got somehow uploaded into Chuck’s brain, and that he can put pieces together when he sees things. Or when the time is right, as illustrated on this episode.

I still find it so illogical that this was used to make the show, because intelligence is an active field, where information needs to be constantly reviewed, updated, corrected. Somehow Chuck always knows about the bomb that’s gonna explode tonight, or the terrorist who’s gonna be in town next week. Because all bad guys live in Chuck’s neighborhood on NBC, just like they do around Jack Bauer on Fox. Don’t ask.

But while all of this can make sense with fresh data he got from a few days ago, every week it becomes more illogical. Soon his knowledge will be outdated and he’ll become a low priority, or that’s how it should happened at least. So what, are they gonna upgrade his brain every so often because they found out he’s pretty efficient at making putting all things together ? Please.

This just prevents me from being into the show, or it would if it wasn’t so bad anyway. Just look at today’s episode. What part of the plot was not predictable ? Seriously. Of course Chuck’s gonna recognize someone, of course he won’t be the bad guy even though every one thinks so, of course the woman he meets will turn out to be the real “bad guy”. You can see all that coming long before it happens, and when it does, there’s nothing for you to enjoy, it’s not even funny, they don’t parody stupid things, they just do them.

I still fail to see any traces of second degree or self-depreciation.
