Chuck: Chuck Versus the Sandworm
By fred | October 30, 2007
Another proof : he needed one too much reference to James Bond in order to - finally - realize that the guy was lying. I mean come on Chuck, try to use your brain from time to time : he lied from day one, as soon as he saw you you knew you were a joke. That’s why he used a water gun, he was just looking to gain bound and your trust ; and it worked. But he lied about being a good guy, about being framed for murder while innocent, that’s why he took the car, and armed the bomb, was a last minute pop-reference really needed to get it ? Really ??
BTW if that guy was so good at this, he should have - this one time only - tell the truth. So Chuck would proudly doubt him, and cut the other one, and blew up. *smiles* Anyways, why don’t any bomb maker ever only uses white cable, or red, or blue, I don’t care, just one single color for all of them, please.
Second, on my list of things to say, is the tone of the show. I know people keep arguing that it’s parody, or comedy and fun(ny) because it’s made on purpose and doesn’t take itself seriously, but I think it does. Because I don’t see no indication that it doesn’t. As always, doing the same stupid things done in the past, using the same stupid plots again, just because you know they’re stupid doesn’t make them any less stupid, nor funny. Not unless you make them so, and in this case, they never do.
Third, since I said I’ll go further, neither Chuck or Morgan are geeks. And pulling out some hour-long discussions about sandwiches card doesn’t change that, even with the mention of a Jessica Alba sandwich (no not that kind of sandwich, perv!). You want to see what geeks look like, and what some of their conversations might sound like, check out The Big Bang Theory ! It’s not so great, not always funny, but those are geeks who can talk hours and hours about Superman and why he couldn’t catch Lois in mid-air without cutting her in parts. Now that was believable geeks all the way.
So Chuck is stupid, but what about Morgan ? I know he’s supposed to be some kind of comedic relief of some kind, but really… They guy was moaning about loosing his job last week, yet he was still advising potential customers to go buy their stuff elsewhere, and this week he just loose the shirt to eat garbage, that is, when he actually shows up!
In what world does he NOT get fired ??
That said, I liked that Chuck did not get the promotion, which would have been the classic stupid move you see on TV. I’ll give them that. But not the fact that Chuck did not stop the bomb at the very last second, because (a) they did that on the pilot already, and (b) it was purely for the 007 reference.
But in the end, it was once again simply not good, not fun or funny. This show has no serialized plot, which probably doesn’t help with their stupid basis, you know, the “Chuck is aware of everything, even though what he knows never gets updated, which is the most important and required thing when it comes to intelligence” part. Add to that some pretty low character development, I mean Morgan is just stupid and supposed to be funny, Chuck is always wondering whether or not he should trust his handlers, or Sarah at least, Casey always feels left out, and I’m so bored already.
And I didn’t even mention the “nerdy girl” and that stupid “he can eat anything” line/scene, which I didn’t like, or that scene between Chuck and Morgan towards the end, which reminded me of one other scene from another Josh Schwartz’s series, The O.C.. Only back then it had its place, here, not really. Especially given that the two didn’t fall into each others’ arms and french kissed.
Let’s bring in Rachel, so that maybe things between Check & Sarah will evolve, maybe.
