Chuck: Chuck Versus The Marlin

By fred | January 25, 2008

Also predictable was the whole “empty the Buy More” bit, and the way they tracked everything down. Chuck still acted like a moron at times, still can’t help but screaming “he’s a killer for the Russian mafia” or “Ohmigod that’s a bug” whenever he flashes, doesn’t matter how stupid that is or if it could put him or anyone else in danger, yet somehow he managed to find out who the other spy was, while Casey couldn’t get any info from anyone. Thank God this guy isn’t a special agent who’s… oh wait, scratch that, never mind.

ChuckSo this chick was a spy. A very bad one at that, because those bugs were absolutely not very well hidden. At least they had another catfight, I guess they missed those. And later on, when spygirl tells Chuck she’s got guns, and her him what he’s got, how freaking stupid was Sarah’s reaction to go “he’s got me” and then go try and pull her hair or bite her arms or something ?? Couldn’t she for once act like, you know, a trained spy. As in, first kick her down, grab the guns, take control of the situation, and then if you want you can look her down and with a very bad-ass look go “he’s got me!”

At least that would have made her look like a real spy, one Chuck can count on. Instead like looked like a stupid girl who’s deeply in love with Chuck, even though she won’t say it.

So, the ring plot was predictable like crazy, so was the whole spy thing, I mean you could even adlib the show at some point, because even if you had never seen the episode before, you knew what would happen, and what people would say. When Morgan was asked to tell the whole story and went “I was born…” you knew he would, that’s the oldest thing ever. But where was the thing that would actually made this bit work, that would make this scene funny instead of pathetic ? Where was it ?

And even though the authorities had already made up their minds and wanted Chuck to go in, just because in-love Sarah said that stupid spygirl said she of course hadn’t told her boss yet about who the Intersect was, they changed their mind. Right. Made about as much sense to me as to have Casey to want Sarah to disobey order and go save Chuck from, well, their own bosses. No but it’s not like Casey has always been all about the rules and was even portrayed as one who would not have a problem killing Chuck, was he given the order to do so.
I guess it didn’t take long to make him a very bad agent, unless he was still recovering from his undead girlfriend…

All in all another stupid episode which had me convinced that this show isn’t for me, I guess I don’t get it. Because to me, it takes itself way too seriously, it doesn’t make fun of old clichés from spy movies or anywhere else, just redo them all one after the other. And I fail to see how that’s somehow funny this time around, so, since the season is over, I think this was the last episode of it I’ll watch.

Goodbye, Chuck. I won’t miss you.
