Chuck: Chuck Versus The Fat Lady

By fred | November 18, 2008

Chuck(S02E07) During the first season there was no doubt that Chuck was into Sarah, but that wasn’t meant to be and, even though she did share those feelings, Sarah always denied it. It took a while for her to admit she cared about Chuck, but it simply couldn’t go anywhere, not with him being the Intersect and her a spy watching over him, so it never happened.

But, that wasn’t without a few scenes where the two got to talk and kiss, and while she remains on her position, this season Sarah clearly shows a lot more interest in Chuck that she used to at first. But she’s only his pretend-girlfriend, a cover for friends of family for some reason, and Chuck got to date someone else, someone real, someone we met last week, Jill.

It’s still kinda silly that she can know the truth about Chuck but neither his sister or best friend can, but those are among the plot holes of the show you gotta live with. Last week Jill looked to be an innocent girl, but as this episode progressed one thing became clear : she was no ordinary girl. Many hints were presented all along the way : from her enormous interest in Chuck’s spy life, to her willingness to get involved in the mission, to that kidnapping that couldn’t have screamed more fake (I mean, no surprise, no screaming, no fighting back…) to her quick acceptance that, of course, if Chuck was half naked in the shower with Sarah, it was totally because they thought they were washing away some poison, which turned out to actually be juice powder, all of that after she got that odd phone call where it could have sounded like Chuck and Sarah were trying to have sex, though Chuck has some difficulties getting in position or something….

It wasn’t too hard to see she was hiding something, and by the end of the episode and long before they even started to have pictures showing up on their screen we all knew whose face would eventually show up. But that didn’t mean if wasn’t fun. As always we got some plot holes all along the way, some really hard to swallow – I mean Casey just turning his back on Chuck, leaving the thumb drive right there to be taken, really??

Though it’s almost hard to tell what made less sense, that, or the Fulcrum agent not bothering to check if what Chuck sent was actually the thumb drive it was supposed to be, or just some bogus one Chuck would have stolen from Buymoria. On that note, if I were him I would have totally gave him the copy, and kept the original to myself. You know, just in case.

But the whole case was still a lot of fun to watch, I mean who didn’t love Casey hitting a High C just like that, cause he was a choir boy once, or watching Sarah getting all kinds of jealous while refusing to admit it, and Casey throwing awesome line such as “are you sure you’re not just jealous Bartowski found himself a new piece of asset?” You gotta love the guy.

One thing you gotta admire, also, is that on this show they have no shame, really. Not long ago Sarah ended up fighting another girl in the showers, which were turned on so water could pour on them, because you know, that’s hot. This time, she and Chuck has to rush to the shower to wash up from juice powder, and they even had him end up face in her boobs !! They really just go for it, and I think what could be even more impressive is that, in the end, they managed to pull it off brilliantly, because as sexy as Sarah can be, it actually was funny.

Meanwhile, in Buymoria… A land Chuck is not really seen much around these day, though I myself have no problem at all with that, as long as the stories there remain funny, as they were this week. Can’t go wrong with Jeff going in “prison mode,” and the new guy finally got a little to do himself. Morgan finding out about Jill and how he knew nothing of it just reminds of how silly it is that no one can know about Chuck being a CIA agent, just as Jill and a lot of people do, and while I didn’t miss Chuck’s sister or Captain Awesome, I do wonder where the Hell did Anna go ?? She’s been MIA for a few weeks now at least, was there ever a reason given for where she is or anything ??

Anyways, another pretty good episode with many laughs. Now that Chuck is out with Jill, Fulcrum agent, after Sarah & Casey once again failed at keeping an eye on him, I’m sure we’re heading towards a big finale during which Chuck’s heart will be broken again…

As for now, what did you think of this episode ? Will Sarah be able to do her job as she should again ? Anyone doubt Chuck & Sarah will end up together ? What was your favorite line ?

PS: Just need to add another line from Casey, the man : “I don’t even care for my own feelings!
