Cashmere Mafia: Dangerous Liaisons

(S01E03) I had watched and reviewed the second episode only to be able to take a look at this one, so obviously I did. Of course, it also helps that there’s not much else on TV. Ever since it started I haven’t been a fan of this show, which may have some good points, but a lot more bad ones. And to be honest, I didn’t expect things to get any better this time.
I’m not really sure I expected anything out of this episode, but what we got from the previous ones. And while it may not be the worst thing on TV, still mostly, it ain’t really good.
And I wasn’t disappointed, in the sense that no, things did not get any better. Okay, maybe it was a little lesser bad than it used to, but we’re still far from being anywhere near a good show.
It’s just amazing how things can neither look nor feel any natural with these girls. Not that I’m obsessed with Sex And The City, but unlike the HBO hit, here it really looks like the girls aren’t having a discussion, but saying words written for them, written by men, even more so. So when Juliet is about to cheat on her husband, of course you had to have Zoey to go how the can’t do it, because women aren’t like men, and they can’t have sex without any feelings, it cannot not have any meaning.
I have to say, it just sounded like both a badly written, and a very written-by-a-guy discussion. Of course on the Sex And The City you’d have Charlotte to say about the same thing, only she’d look actually almost offended by the simple idea of meaningless sex, but that’s only because she’s Charlotte. And she wouldn’t have had finished to explain how it cannot be done, and should not be done, men or women, you’d have Sam already laughing at her, because “of course you can, sex is just sex, if he’s hot screw him, have some good time, and leave. You don’t even know to his name, who cares!”
But not here. Here, no one reacts to it, because they all agree, it the whole thing seems flat and boring. And what about that “joke” Mia said, on how you’re allowed to cheat on your husband if he’s cheated on you before ? That sounded so fake, that was such a perfect illustration of it not being girls having a discussion and joking, but announcing words written for them, reading from the script.
It was awful, and so was the whole bit about Juliet finding out and getting “mad” about the new blog thing. By the way, I hated that Gossip Girl part of the show, where suddenly everything that the girls do finds its way on that new gossip blog, it was completely lame. And Juliet’s reaction, was completely dull. She did not seemed pissed, she stayed as cold as ever, no one reacted, God it looks like the four girls should never be together, cause those scenes are always a mess.
Juliet it still a boring, annoying character. She’s not just ice cold, she’s also not able to do anything. I’m surprised she actually had something to get the blog to end, it wasn’t shown but I’m sure she had to have some of the other girls to have this idea and made it happened, cause on her own there’s no way : she can only cry for help. I absolutely don’t care for her, or her story.
Meanwhile, Mia completely dropped to crap. Really, that whole cover thing was bad, her with whoever is in charge in a bar, where she complains about her ex while “talking about the cover” was awful, really really bad, and what to say about that “letter” published in her magazine. It was really bad, stupidly predictable, and again if you’re to compare with HBO’s hit, whatever Carrie would write about her private life was never that obvious, it wasn’t just about outrageously her, it was a more general thing, filled with personal references or private jokes, humor, it’s all the same problem with this show : it takes itself way too seriously, and it’s not fun.
The whole story with Zoey was a bit old, really, and from the start I kinda suspected that her assistant was actually manipulating everyone. Maybe she’s just dumb an lucky, but I felt the other way, and to me when she called her at night, threatening to fill a lawsuit, to me then it was obvious she was manipulating everyone to get a promotion.
As for Caitlin, I still think she’s the most interesting and natural of all the girls, even though, again, when she’s with any of the other girls, somehow their discussions don’t feel “real”. Also, I felt like we saw much less of her this time than any of the others, which is a shame because we had plenty of the other stories, which were all clichés, and going from boring to annoying.
Also, I’m not a fan of her make-up. Quite a few times, she had make-up or an haircut that really didn’t work. I’m no expert, but she hasn’t always looked her best. Truth be told, I haven’t been a fan of some of Mia’s outfits as well.
All in all it’s obvious now that I’m only watching cause there’s nothing else, cause it’s not good and it doesn’t even look like it’s trying to get better. Who knows, after the gossip aspect maybe next week they’ll pull out some secret agent plot, “à la” Chuck.
