Cashmere Mafia: Conference Call

By fred | January 14, 2008

As for Mia, it’s not just the clichés, but how bad they are done. For instance, having, as a first task on her new job, to fire a guy who happens to be her mentor, as well as a friend of hers : that’s an old cliché. But why did they did it like that, why the Hell did they had that guy be a pretentious ass who wasn’t actually doing much work, and totally deserves to be fired. Hell, hadn’t she been asked to do so, that should have been her first decision on the job anyway!

Cashmere MafiaIf you want to make her character interesting, have her face her boss and refuse to fire the guy, or to have him fired altogether, should there be a reason for keeping him on board, or have her to fire him without even blinking because that’s how things are done in the business. I’m sure they think they do something just like that, but by the time she fired him, if she had not done so she was a stupid incompetent moron, and we all have to believe that if she got where she is today, she’s not.

Oh and also, what the fuck was that scene afterward, where she’s all nice and friendly with that assistant of hers, and giving her sunglasses at that ?? If she having a stroke or something ? Really, they should check, cause she was acting like a total moron there, completely unrealistic.

Juliet, I’ve made up my mind about her I think. I hate her, she’s annoying & boring. Last time she was already boring, cold, almost non-existent, and did I mention boring?, and this time things didn’t get any better.

I could be fine with her being so cold and having that sort of behavior, if she could actually pull it off. If, like Zoe I believe, she was able to show her opponent she could bring them down, if should could pull strings and have a much bigger & better bus ready, and steal the show, and shut her up in a second cause she’s on a conference call, then I’d be fine.

But unlike her friend, all she can do is hang up as soon as whoever she’s calling picks up the phone, then shake and cry and hope for her friends to do all the work. If she didn’t had Caitlin to make decisions and get things happening, she’d never have done anything, at all. It’s easy to go “I have a date” to your husband and pull that act out, but we all know there’s nothing behind it. Without Caitlin doing everything for, she’d have or be nothing.

Sex And The City wasn’t just about four girls, it was refreshing, it was fun, it was funny, in was interesting, and it was so much more than all that, and Cashmere Mafia isn’t any of that ! And that little chat ending with “I was trying to process one lesbian, now I have three” was awful ! They try to create a fun chat between girls, and to end on a joke, but it’s neither fun or funny, it’s awful, and like during the pilot those girls don’t seem to be having a conversation, but saying lines and jokes written for them by guys thinking they’re smart, or funny. It needs to be natural, it needs to feel like actual women having a conversation in a bar, and it does not, at all.

So here I go hating and bashing that show, which really isn’t good, and then I realize another show just like that is coming, and I can guarantee you it’s going to be worse, a lot worse, you have no idea how bad that one will be. So obviously, Cashmere Mafia could be a lot worse, it’d then be called Lipstick Jungle and air on NBC. Still, it could also be a lot better than what it is today !
