Breaking Bad: Negro y Azul

(S02E07) This show is all kinds of awesome, and deals with a lot of bad stuff. Our two leads are making the best they can, but because of the direction they “chose” to put their lives to, they’re pretty much doomed to eventually fail, and end broken down, wallowing in misery or simply dead. Cooking & dealing meth isn’t a happy business, and the more they dive into it the worst things become.
That doesn’t mean there can’t be little moments of light in all of this darkness, of course for a moment there they can have hope for better tomorrows, and on a side note the show is never shy from delivering some lighter moments, sometimes filled with humor. The week’s episode opened full of life and colors, with music and singing, it was far from what Walter & Jesse’s worlds have become of late, yet it was all about it.
This song was about the legend of one Heisenberg and how, thanks to his blue drug, he managed to grow rapidly and get the cartel mad at him. And as what can surely be seen as foreshadowing, the song was also stating how that poor fellow didn’t realized it yet, but he was already dead – and that ended with Walter lying down on the floor.
But for now, the story hasn’t reached that far yet, the teddy bear isn’t in the pool yet, and no one’s dead. Well, someone is, and as the word on the street is, Jesse is the one who crushed his skull. Last week I was saying how Walter really isn’t a good guy anymore, and how he’s pushing Jesse down with him without seeming to even care. When he finally got inside the apartment, and while in the darkness of the room he found out what happened, that Jesse already did what he had asked for, took care of the problem and got the money, all the while somebody got killed, Walter realized what he did to Jesse.
He calmed down, he stopped yelling and even, taking a roll of money with blood on it, he let out a ’sorry’ to his partner. Of course, as soon as he found out how people on the street thought Jesse was the one behind it, Walter didn’t hesitate to turn this to their advantage and make Jesse the killer. It’s not good for Jesse, but it’s good for their business and that’s all that matters to Walt.
Still greedy as ever, Walter now wants to use this rep to expand and invade the territory of others, he thinks because of what people think of Jesse, nobody will do anything about it, and with a little talk about blowfish he got Jesse to roll with it. Of course, this sounds again like a case of not-thinking-before-acting, because while this was good for their business and getting people to pay and not fuck with them, other drug dealers will surely react.
There certainly are other Tucos out there, and those people are just crazy enough not to be scared away by whatever rep Jesse has going for him. They’ll take him seriously, but they won’t let things slide, they’ll want to challenge that rep, and Jesse isn’t ready to live up to it, and Walter, while more of a bad-ass, isn’t guaranteed not to be taken down by his coughing, back and kicking.
Those two are still way over their heads on this and don’t even seem to realize it. Especially Walt, who’s already thinking of raising the prize to make even more money. Surely, in such a business, rushing things is a good way to get you killed. And when there’s a strong possibility that those you’ll be dealing with next just decapitated someone named Tortuga, i.e. turtle, put his head on the back of an actual turtle and put a bomb inside it, so that it would take down a few DEA agents the guy happened to be working for, well needless to say things aren’t going to be pretty.
Meanwhile, Skyler is getting her old job back, despite being clearly pregnant, working for a guy with whom she might have had an affair with years ago, a guy who, unlike what she assumed, is not married anymore and might be interested in more than her math.
We also got to see the lovely Jane back, who didn’t seem to mind Jesse lied about his name and might be involved in some weird/illegal activities, as long as he kept things out of her house. Of course, the fact that she likes Jesse might have something to do with it, and seeing the two of them sitting in front of a huge flat screen TV, waiting for the picture to come in (does Jesse even have a satellite dish? I can totally see him not plugging the thing into anything at all yet waiting for hours for the damn thing to work on his own…) and holding hands was a beautiful image of young love, of them both filled of hopes, dreams, fears & anxieties, waiting to see what’s in store for them in this life.
Of course, once the picture comes in, unfortunately what they’re likely to see is that clip we saw at the beginning of the episode, it’s TV news flash about the latest drug dealer in town, about a lab taken down and the guy killed, what’s about to come on the screen is (Walt &) Jesse’s demise… It’s sweet and sad, beautiful and horrible, and addictive, highly addictive – I need my next fix, now!
What did everybody else think?
