Breaking Bad: Cat’s in the Bag…
By fred | January 28, 2008
So my first idea to get ride of the bodies was to burn them, but - silly me - the guy’s a chemistry teacher, so of course they will go that way. Which isn’t a bad idea either, I’m not not a good chemist that’s why I prefer to burn my dead bodies. I mean… yeah, so this eventually led to some very gruesome “house trouble”, as the remains of the inside of the body were all over the place, and there was a big hole on the floor.
Now I have to say that I saw that coming very early on, and I’m sure most of you had as well. It doesn’t take a genius to figure this out, and it’s not a very uncommon situation. Even the line “Oh, yes, that stupid plastic container I asked you to buy. You see hydrofluoric acid won’t eat through plastic, it will - however - dissolve metal, rock, glass, ceramic; so there’s that.” was some incredible cliché, let’s be honest.
And still, it doesn’t seem to bother me much. Because it was very well acted, and as much as I was it coming, that scene was very well done I found, really that was some pretty great scene, plus it had me laughing pretty bad.
That was for Pinkman’s job, what about White. Well, White had to kill Crazy 8 or whatever his name is. Before we get into that : how funny was it when he “picked him up” on the street ? I mean, it’s the middle of the day, there could be people watching anywhere, and the guy doesn’t even try to play it nice and put him in the back, no he puts him directly in the trunk of the car, no worries.
Anyways, this wasn’t like the first time, it wasn’t on the heat of the moment or as a self-defensive reaction, no this time he had to go downstairs with one aim : kill the fucker. That’s like “real” murder, premeditated and all. And White is no gangster, he’s just a high-school teacher. Well, or he was still just that about 48 hours ago. I know that, but I also know that there’s no way they can let him live. Not after what they all went through, not after his cousin died, not after they tried to kill each other, no at this point on side has to kill the other, there’s no choice.
So when he asked for water, my first reaction was to think how great an opportunity it was : just gave him some water, but not before you put some of your chemistry magic in there that he won’t be able to see or taste, but that will kill him. He was wondering what to use, a knife, a hammer, a plastic bag… just some nice poison will do the job just as well, it’s probably easier even, and won’t get as dirty, too.
I was really disappointed when he actually fed him, and sure the whole “bathroom jokes” were fun, but still that was a Godsend opportunity to get ride of the guy, easy, nice & clean.
The other important thing that took place was the deal with White’s wife. Of course he doesn’t want to let her know he’s dying, which made her remark about when their future little girl will be 16 a “delightful” cruel joke, and so he lied and simply told her he was buying weed from Pinkman. Good. But the fact that she knows his name, where he lives, the fact that she showed up to his place and threaten to send the DEA over there, that’s actually a very real threat right there !
I mean, should she find that her husband still behaves in an unusual way and thinks that it’s drug related and decided to act on it, she could send her DEA agent of a brother over there, so there better not be pot, meth or dead bodies all over the place. I think she’s become a real risk, and so she needs to be whacked.
No but seriously, he better be careful here.
All in all, this was another fantastic episode we got there, with some great develoments, a very real feeling to it and some dark humor on top of it all in a show that is on its way to become one of my favorites. I can’t wait for the next one !!
