Bionic Woman: The Education of Jaime Sommers
By fred | October 26, 2007
(S01E05) You may have noticed that for the last episodes, the little picture I used along with reviews the this show weren’t not of Jamie Sommers, but Sarah Corvus. Anyone what watched the show, or read a review, knows why. There is a reason for it, and whoever is working on this show is aware of that fact.
That is why, I think, they decided to write this episode. It was an attempt to “address” some of the complaints and problems they had with the show. Little spoiler if you didn’t watched the episode, but this week, I did not use a picture featuring Katee Sackhoff’s character, only because she wasn’t in it.
That was one of their failed attempts of the week.
Everybody knows Corvus is a much better, stronger, (more) interesting character. So in order to fix this and have us not focus on her so much but back on the “real” bionic woman, the one that, believe it or not, is supposed to be the heroin of the show, they simply got ride of Corvus.
Which was obviously a terrible idea, given that she was the only thing that could make the show worth watching, as this episode clearly illustrated. It is obvious Jamie isn’t a strong character enough to hold the episode on her shoulders, this might even be why they had also stories about Pope doing his own mission. Only we don’t care about some regular military operation and whatnot, we want bionics.
Oh and quickly, was that guy supposed to be a good, or experienced, agent or something ? Because coming in as Jamie’s uncle, was like.. I’d rather not say cause it’ll get ugly, but you get the idea. Back on our want of bionics.
A choice that may be worth reconsidering, when you see the awful cliché they came up with as plot, again. This week, they had Jamie to play 21 Jump Street, because that’s such a fresh idea, and then for some reason, she had to “fake” a British accent. My guess, they wanted to see if the reason Ryan was really not a strong performer as she should have been was because she had to focus on faking her accent (she is British) and whether it affected her acting or not.
Well, it did not. She’s just a bad choice. I’m pretty sure Sackhoff could do a better job at playing Jamie Sommers, although to be fair, given the lame plot and dialog she’d be given, she couldn’t do miracles.
Another problem with the show, was Jamie’s little sister. So again, they had her off, almost completely, this week. And when Jamie had to go undercover she didn’t bother to make up some lie for her sister, a safe way to ensure that she wouldn’t screw it up. And her sister was just seen a couple a seconds, enough to have her get yet another drink it seemed. Because underage drinking is so much fun.
