Bionic Woman: Sisterhood
By fred | October 12, 2007
(S01E03) It is true that after reading my review of last week’s episode of Bionic Woman, one could have guessed that I was done with the show. However, I did actually tune back in and watched this new episode.
This isn’t a change of heart of any kind, but I’m not completely fed up with the show yet, and I’d like to give them time. After all I’m the first to insult networks when they cancel series after only a few episodes, so it’s only fair that I try to watch more than a couple myself. I don’t always try as hard as I do now, it depends on the series itself mostly. For instance, it took my only one episode to be done with Cavemen, as anyone else I would assume hope, same goes for Cane who’s nothing but a yet another uninteresting soap I don’t care about.
But let’s go back on topic, and this new episode of the new yet not improved Bionic Woman.
This episode was not very different than its two predecessors. It was the same piece of crap. Go ahead, insult me, but this series is not good. Far from it.
For starter, they have an amazing team capable of producing some incredible piece of lame writing. I’ll give them that. Watching this episode I felt that writers really realized, after the pilot, that they had a strong and potentially interesting bionic woman on their hands. Only it wasn’t Jamie, but Sarah.
And that wasn’t really their plan, they need Jamie to be the hero, the main character, the one people love, the reason they tune in for. So, in order to correct this, they basically had two choices on their hands : either they make Jamie a Hell lot better, or they bring Sarah down. Unfortunately, they went with the later option.
I mean much of the way Sarah behaves and what she does, along with the stupid past they gave her, looks to me as if it only serves one point : to make the two bionic woman closer, more of the same, and they’re not trying to upgrade the deficient one to the level of the original, oh no they’re not.
Just like they surely believe that Jamie is better, because she’s got newer technology inside, only this is so wrong. Sarah is so much better, because she’s more bionic, because she completely knows how it works, she’s got full control over it (well, except during her stupid bad days…). Jamie is like an ignorant kid with the latest new hi-tech weapon there is. The weapon looks good, it would kick-ass like crazy in the hand of a great experienced soldier such as, say, the original bionic woman, but in Jamie’s hands, it’s more dangerous than anything else.
I mentioned Sarah’s past just before, so let’s talking about that a little more. What the fuck was that ? Not only was it stupid, and what the hell is it with bionic women to have to have annoying sisters by the way, but it also shows some great inconsistency along the show I think.
Like, they have one of their agent/doctor involved in a car crash. One that they quickly suspect wasn’t really an accident, given that the truck driver was dead long before. And it oddly looked like an exact copy of the accident involving no other than their first and original bionic woman ! You would think that maybe, she did that on purpose as a way to send a message, you would think that maybe, they should have suspected that on the pilot, not required to hear it from Jamie.
Oh and while we’re on that subject, I thought they said she had a “superior IQ” during the pilot. I think they meant “inferior”, because obviously the girl is a moron.
