Best new show this season is…

The show is very well written, it’s smart, exciting, and doesn’t lack a sense of humor too (eg. lines like “I’ll get there earlier tomorrow), which is always nice. Very well directed/cutted, and after a few episodes they went away with the repetitive parts of the day (in the morning) to only go directly with what matters. Making things more efficient, and making sure it won’t get boring, also.
We’ve also seen that not everyone (except Hopper) is the same every morning. At one time, Andrea started acting differently that she used to do. She took her partner out and didn’t let him have a say in it. She also called Hopper in the morning.
She didn’t remembered she already lived that day before, yet it seems when she actually went through that day, it somehow sticked with her. Maybe on a subconscious level something was still there, something that made her act differently ; opening once again a whole new bunch of possibilities for the story to evolve. Oh yeah, Daybreak is just nothing like Groundhog Day!
It’s filled with action sequences, conspiracy theories, … that could remind one of 24 (but without the crazy-unrealistic-ish style of Jack Bauer’s show), and is also filled with mysteries and clues given here & there, things that don’t make sense at first, but later on, that could remind of shows like Lost.
With a very big difference yet : writers of Daybreak know what they’re doing. When they put something in the show, that you might not understand at first, rest assured they do. They know why it’s there, why it’s there, and what it means. They’re not playing with you just cause they can, and to get things more… well, for Lost, I’d say crappy? or confusing maybe? And guess what, this is actually very exciting!
I’ll just add that detective Hopper, portrayed by Taye Diggs, is black. Yes it’s quite obvious. And it’s not out of the ordinary, there are black characters in many other shows. Nothing new, or special there. Yet, how many shows have a lead character black? Is Jack Bauer? Jack Shepard? Grissom? Any Desperate Housewives? The Scofields brothers?
In many ways Daybreak is an awesome show. And the fact that it was from start ordered to be a one time thing - one season, 13 episodes, and that’s it - made it even better. Because it wasn’t supposed to go on forever, we knew it wouldn’t get Lost in mysteries & conspiracies, the whole thing was gonna end soon, it had to, we knew it, and it just made the whole thing even more exciting.
All we can hope for now is that we’ll soon get the DVDs so we can actually enjoy the fantastic show that is Daybreak all through its end.
