24 is over…

By fred | April 11, 2007

(S06E17) Well, obviously it isn’t, yet. But after this episode there was some changes, and the show might be going into a new direction.

If you haven’t seen it yet and hate spoilers, stop reading now, because the next words I’ll write will be how it ends. And I do mean this season, not only this episode!
Well, not really no, I don’t mean the season. Only this episode.

I’m Jack Bauer, damnit! In a previous post, unfortunately lost, when Jack learned that Audrey had gone to China looking for him and got killed, Jack got really pissed. It makes me laugh a little, but then I had said that that was when I got my hopes back for the show, except that I didn’t really believe they would actually do it.

I said, looking how pissed off Jack got, that I would but love it if they would drop that whole CTU vs Terrorists plot going on, because it’s the damn same thing every year with 24, and it’s far from being exciting, especially after the hopes we had at first after a start with no less than one nuclear explosion on US soil!

But because of that, they probably couldn’t do it again, even less top it. So my hope was for them to stop all that crap, and turn the end of the season into a personal vendetta : Jack Bauer vs the whole world.
That’s exactly what people would love to see I think, Jack going the dark side, and all alone getting back at everyone involved in the murder of the love of his life !

Well, that might not be what they are actually going to do. First off, because Audrey isn’t dead after all. But that’s a bit irrelevant here, I mean even better, but what I think would really make 24 awesome and stand out is : make Jack go the dark side of the force.

If you want to really get people hooked & excited, surprised, don’t have Jack call in CTU’s favourite geek (Chloe) so she can help him out without letting anyone know at CTU, because that’s the “so classic it’s lame move we always have.

Don’t keep Jack being a straight good guy, don’t have him involve the president, his dad, CTU, or anyone there or anywhere else. In fact, have them go after him! That’d be pretty cool, methinks.

Sadly I don’t think they’d go that way, that far, but who knows.

What about things that already happened, during this episode. Yeah well, nothing much worth talking about I’d say…

I’m a crazy bad-ass!President Palmer didn’t loose his mind, it was a bluff, the Biscuit was shocked, I don’t buy it. Seriously, Palmer never took responsibility, he always agreed with whoever he was talking to, changed opinions more often than changes shirts, I’d say his brain definitely got affected.

Then there’s Jack getting his hands on those damn bombs we’ve all been looking for for hours with not so much excitement. So they were moving Fayed, and got attacked. Everyone was killed, including Bauer, but only because it was CTU agent playing the bad guys.

Well, long before that we knew it was a set up, and it felt fake, there was no real intensity in the scene, not good. Really not.
Having Palmer asking for others to threaten people’s family really confirmed that:
- he’s so not like his brother, who did not let Jack do so. Neither is he like Jack, who went away with it anyways only because he knew it was fake; and this time Palmer wasn’t saying “make it looks like you’re threatening his family
- his brain got affected for sure

But then Jack was back to superhero mode: he’s all alone with the bombs and a bunch of terrorists, Fayed included, armed with shit loads of (automatic) guns, and does he call for back up?

Hell no, he comes in alone and kill them all one by one without getting hurt once. Then he goes to fight Fayed and kill him with his bare hands (Well, using a chain). Of course after it’s all done Doyle and a bunch of CTU agents showed up, but as mentioned before there was not one single terrorists left alive, only Jack.

Jack, who got a call from CTU, and who’s on the other end of the line? No other than Audrey, and the people who got her and wants Jack to come join in the fun. Or else she dies. Which leads is back to the start of this post, please do it right, make this Jack’s personal thing…
