(S07E11) This was the first of the two hours we got this week, and mainly what I want to say about it, at this point, is “Thank God,” Thank God this wasn’t the only episode of the week, but I still have another one coming up next. Now I’m not saying that because it was so good and exciting that I couldn’t see myself waiting one full week before finding out what comes next.
It would be more of a relief, because if that had been the only episode I was getting this week, it would have been incredibly frustrating! Not that it was bad, it was as good as the show has been this season, and that is pretty good so far, but that doesn’t change the fact that, during this hour, not much happened. And after last week where we pretty much ended the first part of the season, I was there, ready to jump into the next arc.
Alas, this hour didn’t see the realization of that, because we’re still not there, we’re still waiting for it to happen. So, yes, Thank God I have another episode coming up, so I can actually see things happening instead of just getting about to.
With that said, many things were being set up for the future, like the inevitable confrontation between Chloe and Janis, or between Juma and Dubaku’s son once Renee (likely) will reveal that his father is dead, and Juma ordered the hit. But I have to say that a lot of things are not making much sense so far — not that I expect the whole “let’s drill underwater our way into the White House” to make much sense, obviously.
But as Bill rightly told Tony, their backup plan relying only and the post-torture immunity was incredibly weak! Not to mention pointless, I mean if they had the proof he was in on it (and they did), they could have confronted him with it and offer him the immunity first. I’m not sure he’s more likely to take it after you first tortured him than he is before. Thank God Renee is proving to become more and more a female version of Jack Bauer, so she managed to get somewhere on her own, as Jack usually does.
In other odd decision, I’m really not liking Janis at all, and it’s only getting worse. Anyways, I guess having been working with a traitor without noticing it got her pissed, so she suspects everyone now. I still thought it was incredibly odd that, when she told Moss, his reaction was to arrest Chloe and call the White House, and nothing else.
I mean, sure they broke the law and had to be stopped, that’s fair. But Moss can’t deny that those people were working the case before the FBI even knew about it, they are the ones who brought up the conspiracy to the light, stopped the terrorists and got back the device, and got the info to find out who was dirty, starting with agents under their own FBI walls. All that to say, maybe Chloe & Jack – while not going by the rules – are still doing what they’re doing for good reasons, for a greater good. My point being : maybe asking Chloe what it is exactly that she did and why wouldn’t have been a bad idea.
I’ll quickly go over the yet-again discussions over torture, how wrong it is and yet how good Jack Bauer is, because we’ve gone through this already earlier on and it’s getting old — especially since all everyone does is repeat their own beliefs.
Getting to the bad guys : seriously, what the Hell is going on with those guys?? So they start a revolution, a civil war in their country, and they’re not even there when it happens! I mean clearly, Juma had prerecorded his victory message long before the invasion even started, and then left the country just as early. They have an army fighting for them, to free their country, and yet they are all in the United States, and apparently they going to the White House!?? Really?
I really don’t see how they think that’s gonna do any good, because no one – people, government, army – no one will just obey them because they are in the White House and have the President, and their own people back in Africa will be pretty pissed to find out that while encouraging them to go risk their lives for their country, those so-called leaders just ran away to the States! Or does no one actually gives a crap about the fate of Sangala and the people there?
Okay, that’s all for now, let’s see how they can magically enter the White House from underneath it, or something.
What did everybody else think?
