24(S07E08) Things are moving on and while we’re still on a transitional episode, one thing that can’t be said is that we’re getting too much boring fillers before getting to whatever comes next in the conspiracy of this long day. In past seasons we’ve had episodes where it felt as if nothing happened, where Jack was sitting behind a desk for hours, literally, or where boring fillers took over the interesting bits we wanted to see.

This season, however, I think writers managed to get things better. Sure we still have some silly romance going on at CTU the FBI with blondie in what seems a completely unnecessary plot, but it’s only so little, we’re mostly with Jack and there, things are happening, really happening, and that’s just great — it is why we’re watching 24 in the first place, to see Jack kicking some asses.

Doesn’t mean it’s all perfect though, and one thing that’s hard to understand is what is everyone doing. For instance, if last week Tony, while there, barely had a word to say, this week he and Chloe were nowhere to be seen. WTF!? I really don’t think Matobo’s wife needs that many babysitters, really, and I’m sure Tony could have turned out to be a welcomed helping hand, no?

Sure, he didn’t want to go to the White House because of his past, understandable, but he never said he stopped caring and wouldn’t do shit for the rest of the day. Are we supposed to think now he doesn’t give a crap what happens next ? Bill didn’t lie or hide the fact that Tony was indeed on his team and had been helping them from the start, and I’m pretty sure both he and Chloe, even without meeting the new President, could have really been helpful getting the First Gentleman back.

Speaking of, of course the President couldn’t just stop everything because her husband had been kidnapped, what sort of stupid politicians could tell her that people would “understand” or “wouldn’t blame her” for doing so ?? Especially after her speech on TV stating that she wouldn’t bend to terrorists, despite the lives of American citizens put at risk, not to mention the soldiers back in Africa who go, then don’t, but they go, only to back out again — seriously there was no way she could just change her mind now. Not when there are actual people, US soldiers, risking their lives, not after that declaration on TV minutes ago. Was he kidding??

This season continued to have thoughts and people arguing over Jack’s ways, and how he does what he feels is necessary to be done, breaking the rules because the bad guys don’t obey any such rules, while rules are what’s supposed to differentiate us from them and make us better. “Screw that,” said Bauer, and he got Renee to go along, at least for today.

I felt this was a bit too much, especially since Jack wasn’t asking to torture the wife & kid, but to make pretend, to have the guy think they would go there. Much like in a previous season, he had someone believe he just killed his family, while truth was, he did not really do such a thing, it was an act. Somehow Agent Walker is fine actually torturing people she thinks are bad, but when it comes to others then pretending is too much. But he does it anyway, she’s never reach a point where it’s too much. Go figure.

As I said before, we’re moving to the next step, no more CIP device already and no more First Gentleman either. He might not actually die from the gunshot, but he’s not kidnapped no more. Next time, I think we’ll meet the other bad guy, the one above Dubaku, the one who doesn’t have his girlfriend call in the middle of a terrorist operation to know whether or not he’s coming home for dinner, or with the annoying sister who needs to be “silenced” right away.

So, now there’s no more CIP device to get back, no more husband whose life is being threatened, Dubaku had nothing left. Again, we need to go higher and meet the really bad guy, whose surely after something else than just making money out a war in Africa.

What did everybody think of this episode ? Will Walker really quit tomorrow ? Has Tony return to his terrorists activities ? Anybody cares about Dubaku’s girlfriend’s sister ?
