24(S07E20) 24 hours, 24 episodes, that is along time, and to keep things up for that long isn’t easy, it requires plenty of work and lots of twists to get there and keeping the viewers interested and excited about the show and what’s yet to come. Last season was a mess, after a few episodes that started really strong, maybe too much, an horrible mess ensued and they just never recovered.

This season however, things looked much better, and for the most part it was solid. Of course there were things that still weren’t quite right, see that hostage situation right in the White House for one, but it was still good overall. Unfortunately, the last impression is also what might set the tone in people’s memories, and this season doesn’t look like it’s going to end very well.

I’m not only saying that because it could end with the death of Jack Bauer - which would certainly be shocking, but couldn’t season 8 be taking place before this one?? – or because Tony appears to be in full terrorist mode - and I certainly hope they don’t give him some crappy better motives in the end, not after what he did today – but because the show is just not very good.

For a little while now it’s been disappointing, and this episode only continued down that road. There are things like that annoying First Daughter, who’s still a bitch, who can’t seem to understand that with great power comes… err, I mean that she’s talking to the President of the United States, and that as such she has to respect her, the title, and that she’s not making decision – especially ones such as what they’re dealing with now – lightly or without careful consideration.

By the way, not that it’s any surprising since the slut slept with journalists and gave away classified info before, and I know Aaron is a trustworthy guy (although I probably would have said the same of Tony earlier on so…) but what she told him, she did it again: revealing highly classified, top-secret information that a security guard should definitely not have access to it. Maybe her little spoiled complaining self doesn’t care, but when you’re the Chief of Staff of POTUS you don’t get to only think about your winning self, FFS!

Alright, moving on to the actual plot, the bigger picture. Um, how to say this?… Really!?? So far it’s just looking very shallow, I mean basically their master plan was what, exactly what Hodges tried to do?? That’s just stupid!

It is, because it means poor Hodges couldn’t care to wait a few more weeks (or months) he was so scared, so he just did things on his own without caring to consult anyone? Seriously? But it’s also a lot more stupid because then, why Tony??

Of they found out he wanted to do exactly what they were planning on doing, only a little earlier on, why send Tony to try and stop him? Especially after it went that far already as to take the President hostage and whatnot, at that point why did they let Tony help the FBI and stop Hodges, only to get one single canister so that they could continue what he started, what they all planned for months?

Surely, earlier on they should have realized it was past the point of no return already, and it was as well to just let Hodges do his things, let him continue, help him do so even, because again all he was trying to do was exactly what they were planning on doing, with him, a few months later. So they would obviously still be “needed” and invited to the party, it was all to their benefit as well.

Lately I’m a bit disappointed with what’s going on, but at least a few things were fun. For one, Tony taking a shower while there’s still a dead body right there on the floor, or Jack yelling at the annoying Chloe-wannabe, that was great, I’ve been hoping for someone to do so for a long time now, and the Palmer/Taylor confusion made it even better.

What did everybody else think?

And the line of the evening goes to…

    Chloe: That doesn’t make sense.

    No, it doesn’t.

If they wanted to stop Hodges, the Big Evil Conspiracy would have been better off sending Tony or Galvez to bump him off rather than destroy all but one of the canisters. They could have had them all, now they’re down to one. The FBI is focused in on what they’re doing. Former CTU is involved. And they’re going to try to shift blame to a Muslim guy for a terrorist attack using a bioweapon the FBI knows damn well is linked to Starkwood, not radical Muslims. Way to not carry off a conspiracy.

Still not buying the Tony thing.
