(S07E05) Continuing into the new day of Jack Bauer, and while there are things that aren’t for the best, clearly, there’s at least one thing that I find pretty cool: we get to see Jack’s day. I know it’s sort of the whole concept of the show, but often in past season we’ve had an episode during which were told that Jack was in custody or something, only to dedicate most of the screen time to other plots, such as the White House, CTU or the bad guys.
And that’s never really a great thing, because let’s face it : if we still tune in to 24 after all those years, there’s only one reason and his name is Jack. And so far this season, one thing I do appreciate is that (I feel) most of the screen time goes to Jack, Tony and the rest of the bad guys with them. That doesn’t mean we don’t get to see some White House drama or people doing about nothing at the FBI, but I don’t feel it’s keeping us away from Jack, or very rarely so.
That being said, we got plenty of filler going on at the FBI this week, from the attorney showing up about 15 minutes after Special Agent Walker tortured someone, which would be mind-blowingly fast even if there wasn’t that entire crisis going on at the same time, to the game of “who’s sleeping with who?” featuring Moss and Walker obviously, or Sean and Erika – and she still serves no purpose at all so I have to assume she’s the mole, right?
I really couldn’t have cared less about this fake drama, and what I especially didn’t like is that while we had that, we didn’t see Bill or Chloe (the real one) this week. Why?? Aren’t they supposed to have Tony wired up or some shit? Wouldn’t have they be listening to everything that was going on, maybe tipping off the FBI or sending someone (well, Bill) to the location to pick up Walker’s body, because they had to suspect Jack wasn’t going to just kill an FBI agent like that, unless Bill is fine with that, too (and he probably is, actually).
But as far as we’re concern, we knew Jack wasn’t going to kill Walker, simply because he’s Jack. And while I was going to complain about how many of the plots this season seems to have took place in previous seasons (see Jack “killing” Nina back in the days), then came this pretty cool twist of burying her alive, basically. I gotta say it was a nice touch, and since we could her breathing over the silent clock I’m guessing we’re supposed to think she could die, but let’s face it, she won’t. Still, that was cool.
Walker can’t die, because we need her now to help Jack & CTU, now that she knows Jack isn’t all bad, and therefore Tony isn’t either – otherwise Jack wouldn’t have got him out, which I assume is what she thought as well before revealing to Tony she was actually not dead down there, otherwise Tony could have just killed her and Jack right there. As great as that scene looked though, the looks Jack and Tony keep exchanging as they were burying her were really annoying me : were they trying to let everybody know there was something fishy, that something was off ??
In other highly predictable development, the First Gentleman’s bodyguard isn’t really all that nice. I’m sure everybody saw that coming as well, just like I doubt they’ll actually kill the President’s husband. What had me rolling on the floor though is the thought that, for about half an hour, the guy just sat and stared at the USB stick. I don’t know why, but that really made me laugh…
Now, let’s hope next week we get to see less FBI filler, “more” Bill and Chloe, and maybe give a couple more lines to Tony, after all if he came back from the dead, surely he’s got things to say!
What did everybody thought of this new hour in the life of Jack Bauer ? Is a panic room really safe if anyone can send in gas or water that easily ?
