24: 11.00am – 12.00pm

24(S07E04) As as become the rule in all of Jack’s special day, with each hour things get worse and worse. At 11.00am Jack was already running from the FBI and most definitely going to prison if he got caught, and it might have looked as if things couldn’t get much worse for the once respected CTU agent. Of course, this being 24 that was merely the beginning of Jack’s troubles, and we can still/always expect things to get worse.

But this episode also saw the crisis at the White House take more prominent part and eat away screen time, which I wasn’t too fund of because, quite frankly, it seems very hard to see why there’s all this struggle and talk. Not to say there isn’t anything at play here or that it doesn’t require attention and consideration, or that it’s an easy decision to make — but really, isn’t it?

I mean, are we really going to believe that the President of the United States would rather risk not only putting millions of Americans lives at risk, but the entire security and infrastructure of the country at risk, over a genocide in Africa like, let’s be honest, isn’t the first we would have watched happening without reacting. And since when does the President think it’s a good idea to tell another nation that terrorist are dictating them what to do, and they intend to obey ? Okay, I didn’t like that whole plot.

In all fairness though, the whole “suicide” plot isn’t much better and it’s about time we start to move one and get some real information on this, or anything else. Because so far, it’s just slow with hints of boredom on the side. Last hour I started to wonder whether Ethan Kanin could be dirty, but now I think not, he’s way too obvious, much like the First Gentleman’s bodyguard.

Okay, back to the interesting part. So over at the FBI, things are really not that interesting actually. While people wonder whether or not the end justifies the means, Sean is doing all sorts of wrong on his own, but not to save his country or anything like that, just to feel safer about his wife, still up in a plane. Even though there hasn’t been no direct threats against said plane, or any planes for that matter, and his wife is far from being the only one up in the air.

Much like last hour, this whole thing actually reminded me of a previous plot in a past season again. Not sure which, maybe Adam’s sister being exposed to a virus in season 3, or Edgar’s mother being exposed to Nuclear Plant Meltdown in season 4… Anyways, I’m not betting that blonde girl is the mole, because she has no purpose whatsoever if not.

Meanwhile Jack discovered the “new CTU”, which is really only Bill, Chloe and Tony. The very nice thing here was that Tony was actually really bad, for a moment. When Emerson brought him back to life, Tony was angry and did join in and turn bad, for real. And the look on Jack’s face at that moment was pretty great.  It’s only now, when things went too far, that he decided to change his mind and be good again.

We don’t know how he managed to convince Bill and Chloe that all he was saying was real and to be trusted when he showed up to let them know that (a) he wasn’t dead, (b) he used to be a terrorist, and (c) he wanted help to turn undercover now and reveal a major conspiracy involving, again, the US government possibly up to the White House. But he did, and in the end Jack joined in too.

What was a little less fun, and sounded very wrong, was how Bill was apparently okay with Tony having to kill Jack. He wasn’t even affected by the whole thing, because it would reinforce Tony’s position so it was all good for them in the end, an killing in innocent man, a friend, who fought for his country more than anyone else ever did, well, that’s just part of the deal, no biggie. Am I crazy or was that odd?

Of course Jack managed to prove he was worthy keeping alive, and one has to wonder why he even had to. I mean, shouldn’t Emerson have had Jack on his radar as well ? Sure, Tony had his life ruined and his wife killed by the government and all, but didn’t the same thing happen to Jack as well ? Wouldn’t Jack have even more reasons to be angry, with the Chinese prison and all ? Wouldn’t Jack also, no offense, be a lot more “talented” than Tony ?

By the way, the guy’s got a weird sense of loyalty, since he’s killing off people loyal to him when he doesn’t need them no more, and he asks others to simply kill their own friends, even if the two of them have always been loyal to one another.

Now we have Tony & Jack being active terrorist, but really undercover CTU agents — Only CTU doesn’t really exists, and they’re in deep trouble whatever happens. Plus, Agent Walker is pretty pissed about it all, and she’s turning into Jack herself, willing to torture and (threaten to) kill people if she has to, to get the information she needs.

It all seems pretty exiting, let’s hope it keeps that way…
