(S07E06) As I said last week, the cool thing about this season is that – while there’s still some fillers here and there of course – we get to mostly see Jack’s day, not so much what happens at the White House and elsewhere (or it mostly feels that way), which usually means we’re right where we want to be, where the action is. Now because of that, and because this is Jack Bauer we’re talking about, things are never just flat, there’s always a little tension here, a bullet there, and someone bleeding, if not dying, around the corner.
Normal daily stuff. And that’s a really good thing, because otherwise it would feel like things are already starting to slow down, and we’re not 12 hours in, but merely six. Don’t count on the FBI to do anything about it, last week was 100% filler and this week was, well, pretty much MIA which isn’t a bad thing, really. Over at the White House, things continue to go down without eating much time.
Surely this will change later on in the season, as I have a feeling when the focus of the season will change to be what it’s really about, we might focus again on internal White House conspiracy. But for now, there’s not much. Sure, some disagree with the President, and yes it may sound odd that she would put at risk lives of American citizen for some kids dying in Africa, where there’s always a genocide or two going on all the time.
Especially so when we’re supposedly talking about bad guys who can bring the entire country down, destroy all planes, shut down all water supply, go after every military or nuclear facilities of the country, that CIP device is a passkey that opens all the most secret (and dangerous) doors, compared to with 9/11 was really nothing with merely a few planes, but it’s still funny to see no one even seems to consider that fact that walking out of Sangala doesn’t automatically ensure that the bad guys will play it nice and not kill anyone.
Anyhow, you know this isn’t like previous seasons because no one at the White House is plotting to over power the President or find some way to put her out of office because she’s obviously lost her mind or something.
With Jack and Tony, it was pretty predictable development all around. First, of course Bill & Chloe were listening and rushed to dig Walker up, give her adrenaline and bring her back to life. We all knew that would happen, no surprises there, just like Emerson had to know something as up. I mean the way they kept starring at each other while burying Walker, Jack & Tony were practically asking for it.
So of course, he suspected something was off and pointed a gun at them. Them being Jack & Tony however, he’s the one who ended up with a bullet in his skull, obviously. The only good part of this all thing was how Tony seemed to still be conflicted over the whole thing, about how he joined Emerson in the first place, and how he still felt about him. And while I’m sure Tony has been involved in his past work in things that cost the lives of innocent people already, this was probably crossing in line and is the reason he decided to switch sides, again.
Jack was right, when he told Agent Walked that, had he told him the whole truth from the get-go, there’s no way she would have believed that. In fact, that she just took it this time and went with it seemed already huge. For now she had to “stay dead” and can’t really be a part of anything, but I’m betting/hoping this will change soon. In a few hours the show will probably reveal what’s really going on this day, and focus back on the conspiracy stuff.
After all, someone will find the First Gentleman not dead soon enough! Yeah, that was just pretty stupid. I mean, for one the fact that the guy could barely hold his fist together one second, and the next find it in him the strength to struggle and kill a highly trained special agent, but also that Gedge took such along time. Henry was sitting there for hours (or close) while he was just waiting and waiting… even after the White House called, which means that if Henry had died too long after that, people might have wondered what happened, no?
Unfortunately they didn’t dare to kill the President’s husband, that would have actually been a cool and surprising move, but not all hope is lost. Not because the place is still a mess with his fingerprints all over the murder weapon (even though he’s got drugs in his system, but I’m betting that cannot be detected or will wear off rapidly, or was Gedge just a moron?) but because there’s still someone watching…
And of course I have to quote the best line of the episode, and the season so far at least, from our very own Chloe, when asked if she was working with the FBI : “No, I’m a stay at home mom!” Just awesome.
What did everybody else think ?
