Last night was a good night for Fox, because with nothing but - finally - a new episode of Bones, and a rerun of House, the network won the demo ! All that with only 8.41 million viewers, while both ABC and CBS went over 10 million viewers - with 10.48 million and 10.85 million respectively.
At 8.00 after a long while, Bones was finally back, and the special Dancing With The Stars didn’t hurt the show one bit : Bones had one of the best performances of the season with 10.09 million viewers, and a 3.3 on the demo (winner of the slot). Meanwhile on CBS the comedies were down, A million less viewers for New Adventures Of Old Christine (6.57 million) and 1.5 million less for Gary Unmarried (6.44 million). Gary still grew on the demo though, with a 2.1 (vs 1.9 for its lead-in.)

Last night it was all about the election, that’s what almost all network covered, so there won’t be much to say. In short, the big winner is Barack Obama, or America as a whole, really. In TV land, ABC was the most-watched network with 13.63 million viewers average, and a close second was NBC was 13.10 million viewers. The Peacock was winner on the demo though (4.8 vs 4.7 for the Alphabet). Loser is CBS, with merely 8.00 million viewers and 2.5 on the demo.
In other news, on The CW it was no historic night, just a regular Tuesday. A regular Tuesday where 90210 was down to 3.02 million viewers and 1.4 on the demo, that was a series low. At 9.00 a new Privileged managed to do slightly better than a week ago, with 2.26 million viewers and 1.1 on the demo. There was no benefit but no loss either from this.

Last night NBC had a special line up with a two-hour Saturday Night Live Presidential Bash 2008, and that did very well. While ABC was the most-watched network (thanks to Dancing With The Stars) the Peacock won the demo very nicely with a 4.4 overnight, something that hasn’t happened in a while…
At 8.00 the good news were for CBS, where the comedy night kicked off pretty well, both sitcoms being the most-watched program of the slot after Dancing With The Stars, and actually winning the demo beating every competition including ABC’s show. The Big Bang Theory had a season high with 9.73 million viewers and a 4.0 on the demo, leading in How I Met Your Mother with slightly less viewers (9.56 million) but performing better on the demo, with a 4.1 (a season high).

Last was one as you don’t see often these days : thanks to its Sunday Night Football NBC managed to be the most-watched network of the night, coming close second to Fox on the demo (4.5 vs 4.9), all that while being the less watched network, not counting The CW of course. Because Fox still had 10.74 million viewers, while The CW couldn’t get one (0.75 million).
On Fox The Simpsons had a season high for their Treehouse of Horror with 12.48 million viewers and no less than a 6.2 on the demo ! The Simpsons was the number 1 program of the night on the demo (yes, beating Football and Desperate Housewives), now when was the last time the show performed that good ?? And quite frankly, this is absolutely not deserved one bit, that episode was a real bore and not funny once…

Fridays are always considered to be a dead night on TV, but that’s only true when you don’t air the right rerun. Yes, as unbelievable as it may sound, CBS won the night very easily thanks to the most-watched program of the night, a rerun of NCIS, with almost twice as many viewers as the last episode of The Ex List.
Ghost Whisperer had 9.41 million viewers and 2.2 on the demo, about 400 000 viewers less than a week ago. But of course the rerun of NCIS at 9.00 was a game-changer, with 11.21 million viewers and 2.3 on the demo. It was the most-watched program of the night, and a nice boost for Numb3rs, with 1.5 million more viewers and a good retention : with 10.62 million viewers and 2.3 on the demo it was a new season high for the show.

The main event last night as of course the season premiere of 30 Rock, finally, and so if you’re a fan of the show you’ll be delighted to hear that it did well, it did very well. In fact, it was a new series high for Tina Fey’s hilarious little comedy with 8.53 million viewers and a 4.1 on the demo ! That is an improvement of 16% in total viewers and 21% on the demo compared to last season’s premiere (7.3 million viewers, 3.4 on the demo) and a very good retention out of its new lead-in on the demo : 95%
Of course, Tina Fey being talked about like crazy in these election days with her Sarah Palin impressions probably helped and it will be interesting to see how this show does in the next weeks, but the show’s great, the episode was hilarious, and to help the promo they still have many guests coming up like Jennifer Aniston, Steve Martin or Oprah, so I’m sure it will be fine.

Last night was the famous night with Barack Obama’s Paid Political Message on the air for half an hour on a few networks, including three of the big four, as ABC kept its usual lineup. It was a success evidently, as over 27 million viewers did watch Obama. Most of them did so on NBC, who could enjoy something that could get almost 10 million viewers and a 3.0 on the demo — surely Knight Rider isn’t gonna do any such thing.
But if Obama was the least watched on Fox, the net has all the reason to be happy nonetheless, as they won the night easily thanks to the World Series, with 14.49 million viewers overnight and a 4.7 on the demo.

Last night, Fox only had a new episode of House to offer, as Fringe was on rerun mode. The network was only third in total viewers overnight, below 10 million viewers (9.55 M), and even if House doesn’t perform as well as it once did, don’t think it isn’t a hit anymore. Fox won the demo thanks to the cranky doctor, that’s how strong the show remains.
At 8.00 NCIS might have remained stable as most-watched program of the night with 17.08 million viewers, House managed to go up with 13.15 million viewers, and more importantly scored a 5.3 on the demo. That was enough to win the night for Fox, and while it might not be a 7, when the next best thing any show could do that night is 3.8 it just means TV ain’t doing as well as it was doing before, but House is still what it was — a hit.

Last night CBS was in rerun mode, leaving ABC to win the night pretty easily. Don’t think CBS was poorly performing though, especially on Monday nights their lineup remains pretty strong, even in reruns, as illustrated by the second spot The Eye took on the demo for the night, with a 3.1 — In the end, is that good news for CBS, or bad news for ABC and the other nets?
At 8.00 the CBS comedies remained pretty strong, each getting more viewers than a new episode of Chuck on NBC, where a competition of reruns didn’t really help as the show lost 200 000 viewers since last week. As for Josh Schwartz’s other series, Gossip Girl, it remained stable with 3.02 million viewers and 1.6 on the demo which, all things considered, is a better result than Chuck’s.

Last night was won by Fox thanks to the World Series, while NBC tanked pretty good trying to air a movie, which never really works these days. Not much to say about the programs at 8.00 if only that on The CW and despite a pretty strong competition (14.95 million viewers (5.0 on the demo) for Fox, and 12.15 million viewers (3.9 on the demo) on ABC) Valentine managed to get 150 000 more viewers, though 0.85 million viewers and 0.3 on the demo is still a failure.
At 9.00 things were even worse for Easy Money, losing viewers with 0.67 million viewers and a 0.2 on the demo. Meanwhile on ABC, Desperate Housewives was the most-watched program of the night with 15.21 million viewers and 5.7 on the demo, while Cold Case managed to get a season high with over one million more viewers, and 12.00 million viewers watching last night (2.8 on the demo).
