Life On Mars canceled

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | March 3, 2009

Life On MarsThe news is out : the US version of Life On Mars has been canceled. Or, as they like to put it, it will not be renewed. The difference being mostly that all 17 episodes will be produced and aired, ABC pinky-swore on that one (of course they also did the same thing back when we were talking Pushing Daisies or Eli Stone, but so far sources seem to believe they will do it this time…), and they managed to get the word out soon enough that producers/writers of the show will be able to give fans a conclusion, turning the last episode into a real series finale where they can reveal what the Hell was happening to Sam and why…

Certainly this isn’t good news, as the show was a quality one, but this isn’t any surprising either given how the ratings weren’t all that good, which might also be linked to the fact that they never really were big on the main issue, and instead we got to follow Sam through his daily routine of a cop in 1973 which, simply, isn’t all that interesting – nor is it what people wanted to see our of this show.

Why watch the series finale of E.R. ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | March 3, 2009

Alexis BledelWhy would you tune in to watch the very last episode of E.R. April 2nd on NBC? Sure, if – like me – you quited the show years ago and probably wouldn’t recognize anyone of the people rushing the Cook County’s E.R. except maybe for a nurse or two, that question might be a good one.

But after all, E.R. might have lost some of its bright light over time, it still was a groundbreaking show in its days, and for some years delivered some of the best thing you could find on television, back when NBC was synonym for mediocrity and failure, as is often the case now (Knight Rider anyone?).

Prison Break is canceled!

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | January 13, 2009

Prison BreakRumor has been out for a while now, but it has now been confirmed/officially announced by Fox president Kevin Reilly : the current season of Prison Break will be the last one.

Currently on hiatus, the show is set to return and air all the remaining episodes - four are currently done, though a couple more might be added to give the show a big two-hour series finale – starting Friday, April 17. And those will be the very last episodes of the series.

Oh yeah, and by the way, the show is sent to Fridays. Another reason to be worried about the fate of of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dollhouse, both sent to Fridays as well…

Series Premiere of To Love & Die on December 30

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 23, 2008

Shiri ApplebyA while back I mentioned new series in the work for USA, one of them being To Love & Die, starring Shiri Appleby.

The cable network had given a 12-episode order for the series, revolving around a fun-loving 30-something woman, Hildy (Shiri Appleby), with abandonment issues convinced that her dating problems would be resolved if only she were able to track down the father (Tim Matheson) she never knew. When she finally does, she finds out not only that the guy is actually a contract killer, but that she has a real knack for this unexpected line of work.

USA announced that the dramedy will come very soon, making its debut in form of a made-for-TV movie. I’m not exactly sure if this is a telefilm to launch the actual series later in 2009, or considered to be a two-hour pilot episode. Either way, it begins on Tuesday, December 30th at 8.00 – on USA of course.

The film stars Shiri Appleby, Tim Matheson, Frances Fisher and Ivan Sergei.

Prison Break: The Sunshine State

Prison Break(S04E16) Well, this time this is it, the last episode of the year for Prison Break, with no return date set as of yet. The six remaining episodes are expected to come back later, maybe April or March, to conclude this season, and probably even the series as a whole. But for now the focus isn’t there, it’s on Scylla of course, as it’s always been this season.

Only these days, our brand new and remodeled team isn’t looking as good as the original one, and their goal isn’t really the same : it’s not about stealing Scylla from the Company to bring it down, but getting it back so Scylla can be returned to its original owner, the Company’s General. Makes sense? Not really, but who the Hell cares!

That’s how it goes, every 365 days or so when the year comes to an end, right before Christmas, you turn to your loved ones to tell them how they’ve disappointed you again, as goes the good old tradition of the alternate holiday introduced to us by no other than George’s dad, Frank Costanza.

Now make sure your aluminum pole is ready, and let’s have a look at all the things that disappointed us this year in TV land. And as it turns out, disappointments have been legion!

When Will Your Shows Be Back In 2009?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 21, 2008

CalendarNow that the end of the year is almost there, and we’ve got pretty much nothing left on TV these weeks, the big question is : when will they be back ? Both the shows that just left us for a (little) while, and those we’ve been waiting for for months if not more!

To answer all those questions and help you prepare your 2009 TV nights, as last year I’ve compiled the 2009 Complete Winter Schedule. It’s just been updated with latest information (such as the CSB’ Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays premiere dates, respectively kicking back on January 4th, 12th, 6th and 14th.), as well as per your request dates about some more cable shows.

2008 Satellite Awards: And The Winner Is…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 15, 2008

Each year the International Press Academy has its own awards, as everybody else, and winners of the 2008 Satellite Awards have been announced this Sunday.

The thing to notice this year isn’t that Showtime is doing pretty well, winner of the best drama with Dexter and best comedy or musical with State Of The Union, although that’s not nothing, but that the other winners are found on AMC (Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad) or HBO (Anna Paquin, True Blood)… but not the main networks. Last year Pushing Daisies (ABC), Grey’s Anatomy (ABC) et Ugly Betty (ABC) had won, and this year while ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC all had at least one nominations, they all got nothing.
