Eli Stone: Pilot

Eli Stone(S01E01) So last night, right after the big premiere everyone will be talking about for days (I assume), was another premiere, a series premiere in fact : the one from Eli Stone. I’m personally not sure this is such a good idea, because while I don’t doubt Lost will do really good, it might not be the best lead-in one could hope for. I mean, I don’t know about you, but usually once you’ve watched a new episode of Lost, you don’t stay put for whatever comes next, you either turn the TV off and think about it, talk about it, or you just grab the remote and watch it all over again, to get a second fresh look, now that you know what will happen.

You may be wondering how come, then, I’m already reviewing this show, while no mention of Lost so far. To tell you the truth, I’ve watched this episode some days ago, and to be completely honest I’ve written those words a few days ago as well. So after a new look over what actually aired, to see how/if it’s been tweaked, and maybe make a few adjustments, that’s it. Yes, I cheated. As for Lost, I’ll need more time to think about it some more and watch it again. I just can’t wait to see it…

But enough about Lost, let’s talk about Eli Stone.

In Treatment: Sophie - Week One

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | January 31, 2008

In Treatment(S01E03) It’s a daily show, so with a new day came a new episode, and a new patient for Paul Weston, therapist of In Treatment. As I’ve said yesterday, I think than this show might probably not be watched “fully”, but that people will chose their day and patients of choice. You have to give it to them, so, with each episode came a new character, and they’re all different.

This week we met with Sophie, and she was nothing like Alex or Laura, which were both nothing alike already. So at least there’s that. But because they are indeed different, and because each episode that will be about them will entirely depend on them, their story, and whether or not we actually care for it, it’ll be easy for people to decide that some patient isn’t worth their time and they don’t bother with the show on that day.

House: It’s A Wonderful Lie

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | January 30, 2008

House(S04E10) Finally!! Finally, after all this time we got to see our favorite Doctor back! Going to see the doctor isn’t usually fun, but when it’s House we’re talking about it couldn’t be any better. I couldn’t wait for a new episode, and I was so happy to see him and his team back I didn’t even mind that despite the first month on 2008 being almost over this was a Christmas-themed episode.

What I now realize troubles me a little if I think about it is the very sad news that now that we’ve seen this episode, there’s only two left. That’s right, we only have one episode coming right after the Superbowl this Sunday, and then next week a new - and, sadly, final - episode of the season.

But for now, let’s focus on how great it was to see House back, and how this episode went down.

In Treatment: Alex - Week One

In Treatment(S01E02) Another day, another session. That’s how it works with HBO’s new series, In Treatment. I’m not sure how it is going to turn out in the end, but after two episodes only I can already see how some could watch only parts of the show, not all episodes, but only those they are interested in.

And because of its unusual “format”, it’s not hard to figure out which one you may be interested in, and which on you may drop. The show will obviously work on a “serialized” format, but with four different stories, one per patient. And not only are those stories completely unrelated to one another, but you know in advance which episode will focus on which story, and that there will never be one episode with more than one story. Except for Friday, of course, when Dr Paul Weston goes to see his own therapist. So it should be easy to pick your days.

Last night was Tuesday, and Tuesday is the day when Alex comes in.

In Treatment: Laura - Week One

In Treatment(S01E01) So last night was the premiere of HBO new drama, In Treatment. And it’s not a show like any other, starting with the way it airs : you got five half-hour episode a week. Monday to Thursday Paul Weston, the therapist, he has appointment with a different patient, and on Friday he switches roles and becomes the patient as he go see his own therapist.

Okay so before going any further I have to make this little completely unrelated side note, but every time I see that word, therapist, I can’t help myself but remember that Jeopardy bit on SNL, where “Sean Connery” would ask for a question from category “the rapist”. I know it’s silly but that had me laughing so hard, and I’ve obviously been traumatized because now that’s what I always see. Sometimes I actually read it as two words, and it makes me laugh.

Okay sorry, back on the show, and today’s session.

After reviewing the nine first episodes, and aLostbout a week or so ago episodes 10 & 11 of Lost: Missing Pieces, the series of webisodes available first on Verizon mobile phone devices, and six days later on ABC’s website, time to put an end to the series.

Today, I just watched the two last “episodes”, kind of, you’ll see what I mean.

Breaking Bad: Cat’s in the Bag…

Breaking Bad(S01E02) Well, I don’t know about you but I myself only watched the pilot of this new show yesterday. It’s been a week since it aired, but I somehow manager not to sit & watch it before then. I don’t really regret it, cause I now had to wait close to nothing before I could get to see this second episode, which is a pretty neat thing because as you know if you read my review of the pilot, I love the show!

I said plenty of good things about it, and I meant each and everyone of them. I also said that I didn’t really know where the show would go for now. After the pilot ended, it was obvious that things weren’t really all good for White, not that they were all bad either, well it could be worse, but what would actually happen was some mystery to me, but I had a strong feeling that I wouldn’t be disappointed by whatever was coming.

DVR Cleaning: Breaking Bad: Pilot

Breaking Bad(S01E01) Yep, so last week to the day (pretty much) premiered on AMC this new show called Breaking Bad, and I wanted to give it a try because it looks like it could be a good one. I know AMC it trying to get up there and have shows that can compete without shame against those of Showtime or FX, and while I personally didn’t enjoy Mad Men, which had been praised by so many, I wouldn’t call that show awful either, it wasn’t Heroes or Private Practice.

So, back on Breaking Bad. I’m sure most of you have seen it by now, and if you haven’t I have only one thing to say to you : go watch it now !! Really, you need to watch it quick because tonight comes the second episode, and I am pretty happy actually that I don’t have to wait one week before I get to see more of it, because I really want to find out what will happen next !

Psych: Lights, Camera… Homicidio

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | January 26, 2008

Psych(S02E13) One thing really cool about this show, besides being actually really fun and making you laugh, is that it somehow managed to avoid the writers’ strike completely, and all of the 16 episodes of the season have been completed and will air as expected. In a world of television where most of our beloved shows are already gone, and some only have one or two episodes left and you need to really pay attention to watch them, or trust your DVR system and watch them later on, given how networks love to “adjust” their schedule quite often, and not to mention the ones coming back with half a season missing, Psych is still there, every Friday as you except to find it. God bless Psych!

So last week was a pretty good episode, but still had a few things I didn’t enjoy so much, like the fact that part of the cast was not actually involved in the case and as a result got stuck within boring fillers. It wasn’t the first time, but it really needed to be the last time. Lucky us, it seems it was!

Chuck: Chuck Versus The Marlin

Chuck(S01E13) Same player, play again. One hour after the previous episode came this one, and because of the writers’ strike, despite getting a full order for 22 episodes, this one will be the last one of the season. That is yet another show you can add on your list of shows that is vanishing away completely from our screens. Let’s all really hope that the strike gets resolved soon, because this has been going on for way too long. (And to make sure networks understand that, don’t watching anything they offer as “replacement”.)

As for this show, well, I didn’t really like the last episode, but then again I’m not a huge fan of the show so here we go. Who knows, maybe this very last episode will have me changing my mind and realizing how wrong I was ?
