Life On Mars: Tuesday’s Dead

Life On Mars(S01E06) I’ve been struggling to know if I liked this show or not, because while there’s an undeniable quality to it and it can be a lot of fun to watch, it remains a cop-procedural which is just something I don’t care for. I don’t know how long they intend to have this show running, but I think it shouldn’t be too long, and one or two seasons might be enough, because planning for more than that ensures that it will have to be really nothing but a cop-procedural.

But if it’s not meant to last forever, we can have episodes that one way or another are linked to Sam’s condition, just like this one was. I thought this was definitely a pretty great episode, but that’s only because while there was, obviously, a new case to work on for Sam, in 1973, it was - at least to me - entirely about his conditions, in 2008.

Eleventh Hour: Frozen

Eleventh Hour(S01E06) Last week I was saying how, despite coming with a potentially exciting and wide open concept, the show had so far failed to deliver even a single episode that really felt strong, and could leave us hopeful that in the future this show could turn into something pretty good. Which is why I was rather happy while watching this episode, as finally we got one !

One pretty good episode that, while certainly not perfect, felt quite stronger and better than the ones before it. I think that this was the best episode so far, and a sign that there might be hope for the show to really find its tone and get better week after week, which could result in something rather interesting.

Supernatural: I Know What You Did Last Summer

Supernatural(S04E09) Maybe it gets old, because I feel like I might be saying this every week, but it just happens to be true : this show is awesome, and might be delivering its best season to date ! I’ve been watching the show ever since it premiered, and I always loved it, but things have evolved over time and the show isn’t like it used to be years ago. It almost feels now like Lost did, ever since the end-date had been set and writers could focus on where to bring the show, how they wanted it to end, as they knew exactly when this would be.

No such thing has been set for Supernatural, at least not officially, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the creative minds behind the show had their own date in mind, and knew exactly what would happen then, thus focusing on bringing is to that point. Because there’s this incredible sense of strength and confidence this season, especially in episodes such as this one where the whole mythology and overall story is at play, that makes everything feel so much better – and it was already pretty awesome to being with.

30 Rock: The One With The Cast Of Night Court

30 Rock(S03E03) One thing I’ve always loved about this show, is how they put the show within the show and all its characters on the real network that is NBC, and they’re not afraid to make fun of it. It’s easy to laugh at NBC of course, but they do it very well and it works all the better because Jack is really working for NBC (or GE) or not some fake network, like NCB, MBC or something.

It really just makes everything a lot funnier, and it’s always a lot of fun to see them go there. Of course, it also works a lot better when you do know what they’re talking about, so you can get the references and laughs at all the (private) jokes they throw at you. For instance, believe it or not I have never heard of Night Court (no really) so that’s probably why I didn’t react to this episode as others will have.

The Office: Business Trip

The Office(S05E07) Last week we ended the episode with what looked like some (new) tension between Jim and Pam, or possibilities of problems between them. Not so much because Alex was interested in Pam and something could ever happen there, but because of what he said, that this was her dream and if she really wanted to make it there, not to ever regret to take all the chances she could get, she had to stay longer.

It could have been been worrying, especially looking at both Jim and Pam’s faces after that little speech, neither of them willing to say anything, but as I explained than I myself was not worried but our lovely couple and their future, I have all the faith in the world they would make it okay, because writers know what they are dealing with there, and they’ve always managed to not go the obvious way, and they always made things right.

Life: Black Friday

Life(S02E08) Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is on its way, and in the middle of it stand Charlie Crews, Dani Reese, and yet another unique crime to solve. I couldn’t be happier than knowing that Life finally made it out of the Friday death slot, not only that but also got its back-nine order and has been picked up for a full season. Hopefully, it means NBC is starting to see potential in the show and they’ll stop messing with it and let the creative minds behind it do what they want to do with it.

Hopefully, writers will feel more confident now and we’ll get a bit closer to that unique feeling that Life used to have during its first season, and that hasn’t always been easy to find with the recent episodes. Actually, take this episode for example : I think it was a very good episode, I really liked it. It had one of those crimes so unique to Life, and of course we had many great moments from Charlie and Dani as I just love them.

Criminal Minds: Memoriam

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 13, 2008

Criminal Minds(S04E07) As expected this was a direct continuation of last week’s event, when while investigating a new case Reid started to have vivid nightmares, and recollection of another little boy who was murdered in Vegas, a kid about his age that he probably knew, and of whom he saw - in his dream - the killer. The killer who was no other than William Reid, father of the genius BAU member.

I was pretty curious to see how this would all go down, with one thing in mind I knew I did not want to see happening, because I felt it would just be way too much and make things completely unbelievable : it couldn’t be true, that Reid’s father was actually a pedophile and a murderer. One crazy mother is enough drama for the family, and any more would have been too much.

South Park: Elementary School Musical

South Park(S12E13) Well, with a title like that it’s pretty obvious what this episode would be about, making fun of High School Musical. Now I never seen any of those movies, though I can tell from the few clips I’ve seen of it that I can’t stand it, and I’m sure there were things I didn’t catch because of that, but I’m perfectly fine with it. Even more so, because this episode worked even if you never watched HSM.

Sure, it was a parody of the movies and making fun of that new trend, and their bogus message that everyone is special and can succeed without ever really overcoming any real obstacle, and be who they are exactly like everyone else, but the episode was also really funny and you didn’t need to know anything about HSM to enjoy it. Plus, long before those movies, the boys of South Park had burst into songs and became pop stars, so we all know Parker & Stone have no problem coming up with great, catchy tunes.

Privileged: All About Insecurities

Privileged(S01E09) Sometimes when watching a show, you have no idea where this story will take you, what will happen next and where the characters will end up. Other times, you pretty much know exactly what’s going to happen because it always follow an established formula, and as a result it’s easy to guess everything that’s coming next, even the so-called “surprises” or “twists”.

This week on Privileged, it wasn’t really hard to see how everything would play out. Not so much because the show follows a formula and every episode looks the same, but because last week things were put in motion, and it certainly looked like there weren’t a dozen of possibilities after that. Things had to happen, and they had to happen a certain way. And so, this week, they pretty much did…

Eli Stone: Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 12, 2008

Eli Stone(S02E04) And here I was, thinking we might here The Clash during this episode… Anyways. If there is one thing I’ve always praised when it comes to this show, it is change. Changes are usually not a common thing on TV, you don’t often see any real change in the life of a show, but on Eli Stone changes are pretty much the rules. Everything is always changing and evolving, and not always the way you think it would.

Of course the major changes going on at the moment, are the separation of Jordan and his former partners, and the new firm he is now creating, with Eli as a full partner; Seems that Eli will be his successor after all. And as we all expected, during the split every employee is being pursued by Posner, not only because they/some are great lawyers, but also to hurt Jordan.
