Is Burn Notice worth a second chance ? About other (USA) shows ??

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 20, 2008

Burn NoticeFor a couple of weeks now, USA hit show Burn Notice has been back on our screens. Last year when the show premiered, I watched the first few episodes but didn’t really liked it and stopped watching. This isn’t the only show I simply don’t keep watching after a bit, and I’m sure many of you do the same : after a while, you either don’t like the show enough, or one day you simply miss an episode, wait to watch it from your DVR, and all of a sudden you realize it’s been a few weeks and you didn’t really miss the show.

There’s no real shame, really, there’s quite a lot of shows out there and we only have so little time. But giving shows a second chance is something that might be worth the effort, because just like some shows go downhill after a few seasons, for others it may take a few months or even a full season to get everything in place, find its voice and become actually/really good.

2008 Complete Fall Schedule with Premiere Dates

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 20, 2008

CalendarAt this point we have the fall schedule and premiere dates for all the main networks (ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and The CW) so now the only thing that remains is for you to search for the information concerning the shows you love/are interested in.

To make things easier for everyone, I took back the complete new fall schedule compiled before premiere dates were known and updated it. You will find here the complete 2008 fall schedule day by day, with all shows on their slot with their premiere dates included. That way you can see how [insert day here] will be, try to see what you’ll watch and what you’ll have set on your DVR, and when things will be back.

And because sometimes you want to know things the other way around, know what will be on at a given time, I’ve also included the list of all premieres dates ordered by date. With all that, hopefully you should have all the information you need to get ready for next fall.

The CW announces fall premiere dates

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 20, 2008

The CWAnd now we have them all. After the four big networks, The CW announced their premiere dates for next season, and the most important thing to note is that while for most networks we will have to wait for mid-September if not October, things will start sooner on The CW.

Much like on Fox, things will begin on September 1st, with the return of Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill. It’s probably a good idea, especially for Gossip Girl, to get people hooked on those shows before there’s anything else on at that time. That said, how desperate does it look for The CW to put GG at 8.00 while promoting it as a show where everyone is having sex with everyone all the time ?

Anyways, new series 90210 premieres on September 2 with a two-hour special, while Privileged (previously Surviving The Filthy Rich) premieres one week later. Smallville and Supernatural both come back on September 18, and if you don’t see Reaper anywhere don’t panic, remember that the show has been sent back to midseason and won’t return until 2009 (no date has been set yet).

All the dates after the jump !

2008 TCA Awards Winners — Enough with Mad Men already!

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 20, 2008

TCAYesterday the Television Critics Association revealed their picks for outstanding achievements this year on television. As always the TCA Awards are known to give out awards to shows usually “snubbed” by other wards like the Emmys, as the critics tend to be more inclined to reward quality shows from cable even if they aren’t a popular hit.

I’m not sure if this is still true this year though, because there wasn’t really any surprise coming from the TCA Awards, which rewarded Mad Men a lot, the new series from AMC which just happens to have received no less than 16 Emmy nominations, a pretty amazing performance which would already be fantastic for either a new series, or a series from AMC.

Now, maybe it’s because I personally do not love Mad Men that much, but while I have no problem to recognize that there’s quality on that show and it does deserve many praises, I’m actually really getting a bit sick of it now.

Flashpoint: First In Line

Flashpoint(S01E02) Back with another tension-packed situation to resolve are the Canadian elite force of Toronto’s Strategic Response Unit. Last week for its series premiere the show wasn’t really any amazing, but it had something that was pretty enjoyable and I felt had potential to grow into something more, something better.

With this episode that sentiment remains about the same pretty much, it suffers from the same kind of flaws, but things did improve and while I felt last week’s episode was close to being a rerun with some much of a deja-vu effect, this time while the clichés weren’t fully gone at least things got better, as in not boring. I really liked the way things work in this show so far, the tension is build up and the team tries to resolve the situation, of course there are times when force must be used, but it isn’t just an action-packed non-sense filled with explosions and gunshots.

Psych: The Ghost In You

Psych(S03E01) Oh boy, did I miss them! Yes things got a bit busy on my end and I didn’t get to see the return of Shawn Spencer and Burton “Gus” Guster until a few minutes ago, that wasn’t easy to do, the wait was killing me, but I made it through just fine, I watched the episode, and suddenly all is well. Last season was a pretty awesome one, and I know many disliked - to say the least - the premiere episode, but I don’t have such a bad memory of it actually.

Either way, this season they had a more “traditional” episode, i.e. no singing, and it rocked! I really don’t see why anyone would not like it, from the very first minutes still back in the flashbacks - the most recent flashbacks so far? - things were absolutely hilarious, and it never stopped. A pure moment of Psych like I love them, filled with pop culture references, hilarious lines, and of course a pineapple.

The Britney Spears Effect Extends To Eli Stone : Do you like it ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 18, 2008

Katie HolmesAlright, so it might be a little unfair to put Katie Holmes in the same bag as the Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and other Lindsay Lohan, but seriously even since Tom Cruise brainwashed her and everything, it’s hard to think of her as an actress and remember she used to be Joey in Dawson’s Creek, for example.

But she was, and back then Holmes did work with producer Greg Berlanti, now executive producer on ABC series Eli Stone. And apparently, everyone loves to bring in some once-famous actress, of just “celebrity”, and give her a part hoping that it will boosts the ratings. What’s even more depressing to me is that it’s often good shows, shows I watch & like, who falls into this trap.

Latest addition to the list : Berlanti approached Holmes and persuaded her to do a guest spot on the series. Holmes will come in to play a lawyer, and as you could expect from the show she’ll even do a little bit of dancing & singing. “It’s great! It’s a great role for her — she actually does some singing and dancing and she’s exquisite” ABC’s McPherson commented.

Gossip Girl: OMFG version 2, aka Season 2 Promo Pics & Teaser

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 18, 2008

Gossip GirlSeems that The CW was pretty pleased with their OMFG campaign last season, because they are clearly going with a OMFG version 2.0 when it comes to promoting the sophomore season of their latest hit (through not that much according to Nielsen, but what do they know about it anyways…), Gossip Girl.

I don’t really like it, because just like the first time it gives a completely different impression of what GG is than what it really is, and it’s nothing like just a stupid show trying to sell sex and outrageous behaviors to teens, but when it comes to TV execs it’s easy: sex sells, so let’s sell sex.

Here’s the new & improved OMFG campaign, in four promo pics and a little teaser with shots from the upcoming season but no real spoilers when it comes to plot or anything… up to you.
