A new pilot for Dollhouse (and coed showers) !??

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 22, 2008

DollhouseJoss Whedon’s new (sci-fi) series, Dollhouse, is scheduled to grace our screens in 2009 on Fox. The pilot episode has already been shot, but now they have to shot another one…

Now before you panic and get ready to go kill everyone at Fox in a moment of uncontrollable rage due to Firefly-flashbacks, when Fox trashed in the worst possible way (one of) the greatest sci-fi shows ever, let’s calm down and listen to the man. After having said he’d never go back to Fox, Whedon did “change his mind”. Or not really, since as he’s been saying over time now, it’s a completely new team, different people working at Fox now, people who actually understand him and what he wants to do with the show. Not those morons from back in the days we all hate, still.

And the idea of shooting a new pilot actually came from Sir Joss Whedon himself, as he explains…

Weeds: Excellent Treasures

Weeds(S04E06) Aww.. Weeds. This is the little show that was to be completely different this season, because they were re-inventing it, or, at least, starting fresh as everyone was moving away for the “little boxes” of Agrestic into a brand new place, with new people, new problems, and brand new weed too. That was the plan, but more and more I feel like this is just like last season all over again.

And I don’t only mean this Nancy didn’t evolve or learn anything, again, I don’t only mean she keeps doing the exact same stupid mistakes, again, now I also mean that just like last season, after a few episodes that were possibly good and showed potential for the show to grow into something more, it just falls back onto itself and pull the same crap once again, being boring and really not so good, again.

Good start for Psych !

NumbersLast Friday was the season premiere for two USA summer hits : Monk, and Psych. It it was all pretty good, since at 9.00 Monk simply had its second-bast season premiere to date with 5.6 million viewers, after season 4 (6.4 million).

One hour later things stayed on the same level, as Psych held on to 86% of its lead-in, averaging 4.9 million viewers - 600 000 more viewers than last season’s premiere.

In the key demo (adults 18-49), Monk and Psych averaged about 2 million viewers, with the latter pulling in about 47 000 more viewers in the demo than its lead-in. Added to the great performances of new series In Plain Sight, needless to say USA is having a great summer so far!

CBS Schedule Tweak: Flashpoint and Swingtown swapped

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 22, 2008

FlashpointSwapping isn’t a new concept for Swingtown anyways, is it?

Some more schedule tweaking, though this time we’re not talking about fall. CBS is said to announce soon that it is swapping its two summer series currently on the air : Swingtown (Thursdays at 10.00) and Flashpoint (Fridays at 10.00)

Though no reason has been given, it’s no secret than Swingtown never really seemed to have find a stable audience and was constantly loosing viewers, whereas Flashpoint started nicely and is showing potential. Starting this week, Flashpoint will air on Thursdays at 10.00 while Swingtown will do so on Fridays at 10.00

Needless to say, while it should end its run it’s very unlikely at this point that Swingtown will ever get renewed for another season.

More NBC Schedule Tweak: More Life !!

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 21, 2008

LifeWell, NBC really love to tweak their schedule and I’m sure we haven’t heard the last of them, especially as they’ll realize many of their shows suck given how they ordered 13 episodes based on a blank paper and not even an (original) idea. Anyways, there’s some good to come out of this mess actually, because it will give us a chance to get more of the greatest new series of last season, and one of the best drama on television right now, as Life returns for its sophomore season.

My Own Worst Enemy was originally planned to make its debut on September 29, but it’s been delayed and won’t come on before October 13 ! I guess there might be some trouble with the show or getting things done, so they can use a few more weeks to try to adjust things…

But the important news is that the excellent Life will now premiere sooner than originally planned (October 3), as the new season premiere has been set for September 29 at 10.00 - right after Heroes. Not only that, but fans of the show - starting with me - can rejoice as for its two first weeks, Life will air not once but twice a week, both on Mondays at 10.00 after Heroes, and on its regular timeslot Fridays at 10.00

In Plain Sight: Don Of The Dead

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 21, 2008

In Plain Sight(S01E08) It’s been recently announced that In Plain Sight would return for another season, with already 16 episodes ordered. The show has been doing well and, more importantly for us, episodes have had a tendency lately to get better week after week, so such a good news is obviously welcome. With that announcement and the memory of last week’s episode, which was the best one of the show so far, I think it’s fair to say that this week I had some expectations from this episode.

Not that I usually don’t, but now I was really hoping that the quality delivered last week would remain in this episode, and that the show would stay on his road to become a really good thing. So it is with great sadness that I have to report how disappointed I was with this episode, which really felt like taking a turn back to weeks before, when things weren’t all that good.

NBC can’t make up their mind: 30 Rock and Kath & Kim swap places

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 21, 2008

NBC’s new comedy Kath & Kim is once again moving on the fall schedule, this time swapping places with 30 Rock.

Originally scheduled on Tuesday night, the new series based on an Australian hit comedy was then moved to the post-The Office slot (9.30) on Thursday night. And now, after having upped the episode order from 6 to 13, the Peacock seem to think that Kath & Kim will be more compatible with My Name Is Earl, thus switching it with 30 Rock.

All in all it’s not really a bad decision if you ask me, because Kath & Kim might be close to My Name Is Earl than it is to The Office, indeed, and I think it’s a better slot for 30 Rock to have The Office as lead-in anyways.

In Plain Sight renewed for a second season !

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 20, 2008

In Plain SightGood news for all fans of Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack) and her partner Marshall : USA announced today that new series In Plain Sight had been renewed for a second season !

The new series has been doing extremely well, being currently the #1 new scripted series of 2008 so far. Across the seven weeks it’s been on the air the show has averaged 2.21 million among adults 18-49, and made USA the #1 cable network on its timeslot (Sundays at 10.00) since its premiere among all three demos.

16 episodes have been ordered for the sophomore season of the show, production will start in October, once again entirely shot on location in and around Albuquerque, NM.

Given how last week’s episode was simply the best episode of the show so far, and how it seems they keep getting better & better, I’m really happy to hear that there will be a second season. Once again, USA managed to bring us another great summer hit. Well done.
