It’s a pretty easy thing to do, to have a crush of Felicia Day. It really doesn’t take much, for example watch Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and you’re there.
And speaking of which, if you were wondering about how she got the part of Penny in Joss Whedon’s musical, wonder no more : while at ComicCon promoting Dr Horrible of course of her own online show, The Guild, Felicia talk to Mahalo Daily about just that, how it was to work with Joss and Neil Patrick Harris, or her upcoming appearance in an episode of hit-drama House.
No spoilers of any kind, but a very nice interview, and Felicia cute as always, of course.
He was the start of Joss Whedon amazing musical Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, he’s on the big screen in the latest Harold & Kumar, he’s singing some more as a guest on Sesame Street (here’s a video of him as the Shoe Fairy), he’s even been seen recently in a new Old Spice commercial, and of course he’s the awesome Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother !
On top of that he received a second Emmy nomination for his work on CBS’ sitcom, and yesterday he answered questions for washingtonpost.com readers. Great read, highly recommended, transcript follow :
(S01E07) So last week, while the episode was all the more predictable, and didn’t always make sense, and as such could have end up being pretty boring, as I said then I ended up liking it. I’m not sure why, but something worked and I enjoyed the episode despite knowing what was going to happen all the time and never be any surprise, or scared.
This week it was all the same in that we knew what was going on, what was going to happen, and how things would end. We knew it all, again no surprises along the way, yet there was a big difference with last week’s episode : I was incredibly bored.
And really, when you look at this episode, how could you not be ?
* Thursday is a big TV night, that’s the rule, and just because it’s summer and there’s not much on does it mean this should change. Which is why tonight we have a few shows that may be worth watching, all on tonight, and all at 10.00 of course.
* On CBS it’s the newly relocated Flashpoint that makes its debut on Thursdays
* NBC has another installment of Fear Itself. Who knows, maybe this one will be good!
I’m not sure teaming up with Hulu might have been the best idea ever. We know there were some glitch at first and international viewers weren’t allowed to watch the first act, which rightfully pissed a few people, starting with me. And now, apparently there might have been some lag in Hulu’s stats and the reported numbers might not be the final numbers, it’s all subject to change, pretty much like with Nielsen : feels like they’re guessing.
Anyways, the show was taken down Sunday night after a one-week run, and here are the numbers so far for Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog :
Of course, those numbers would be higher if the server hadn’t crashed for quite a while when the demand was too high, and they don’t include iTunes downloads or people who watched the show after getting the video from friends, etc And Dr Horrible had been topping the iTunes downloads ever since it premiered, and the three “Top TV Shows” on iTunes right now are still no other than the three acts of Dr Horrible!
But Whedon has been insisting about how this is a completely different situation, how the network didn’t even want him to shot another pilot, but he did decided to do so himself, and maybe he’s just trying to make things look better, maybe he just went there so that the network wouldn’t ask him to and try to burry the original pilot like they did with Firefly, or maybe all is well and everything will work out for the best.
Going back there, here’s what he recently declared : “The fact is, there are echoes of what happened before, so some people are worried. My response to that is, first of all, thanks, I’m glad you care. And also, you can be worried. The show could have all the support in the world from Fox and still not go. There’s no guarantees in this business. The fact is, their support hasn’t wavered, but they did sort of view what I’d done as a little bit different from what I’d sold.
Remember that whole mess with How I Met Your Mother still awaiting to get renewed, and then having Britney Spears to guest in not one but two episodes of the show ?? Yeah, it was horrible and some still have nightmare about it to this day.
But not CBS President Nina Tassler, because while she tried to reassure that “the show is beloved by most in this room and the audience. It was never in danger, we just took a while to make the announcement“, it’s really not a mystery that the show never really received much love from The Eye. Plus, really, how hard is it to announce that the greatest sitcom they have is being renewed ? Especially when it last for weeks and weeks, yet other sitcoms including new series had already received their renewal announcement…
Anyways, about that whole mess - and it really was a mess - Tassler think it was great, and she wants more of it ! Oh yeah, expect more stunt casting coming to CBS soon… Really, anyone who wants to do a guest spot on a CBS show, just have your rep call Tassler directly, say you love the show and you’ll get a spot. Doesn’t even matter if you can actually act or anything, the network will just go tell the writers to write you something, because that’s how great shows are done…
Sounds like an idea NBC could have had, in fact they already had it, only they do it with products, not people. Pays more I guess. And, when you think about it, I might even find NBC’s way a lesser evil, because I’d much rather have to see Barney use an iPhone on some episode that having to share even one scene with Britney Spears…
Okay so first things first : I don’t really know much about Moonlight. From what I understand it was a new series of CBS last season, it got canceled already, and many fans are pissed. Was it actually good ? No idea. What is it about ? Except for that it might be about “a vampire P.I.” I don’t know, because I never watched. These things just happen you know, many new series on the air, choices must be made, and sometimes you just don’t even try one of those new shows…
Anyways, I was just reading about CBS President Nina Tassler comments on why they canceled Moonlight and why it’s alright, where she said that pretty much fans weren’t fans of the show, but the actors starring in it. As she explains it, unlike with Jericho where people love(d) the show, here it was just about people. “I spent a lot of time looking the blogs and the website. Look, I don’t want to say Moonlight fans weren’t fans of the show. They were. But in sort of sifting through all of it (the e-mails, etc.) it was very much about ‘our vampire, Alex (O’Laughlin).’”
I read that, and I just had to ask : are there really any such fans out there, who didn’t care about the show, only the actor(s) ??
(S01E02) Last week we got introduced to “The Cleaner”, aka William Banks, and his crew. The deal is Banks used to be a drug addict, he knows everything about being a junkie and hitting rock bottom, but he got a second chance, he’s clean, and he’s helping people now, it’s his calling. To help him in his mission are a bunch of people, all ex-drug addicts as well, who got helped by Banks and are now working with him helping others.
Their whole purpose is to help people suffering from addiction, should it be drugs, gambling, sex, or anything else. At least, that’s what the press release said. Because last week that’s really really what the episode seemed to be about, but it was a pilot and we needed to have all characters introduced and that can sometimes get in the way. This week, no more such things, we’re diving right into the cases and yet, it’s still the same.
It’s not really a complaint, just a remark: call him “The Cleaner” is you feel like it, but at the end of the day Bank is simply a P.I.
