I’m not sure who it is who tuned in to watch that new post-apocalyptic TV drama called Jericho CBS premiered a while back, but obviously those guys are not your usual TV show audience, they’re more than just regular viewers, they’re freaking nuts. And here they go at it again !
As you know, once before they sent billions of nuts to CBS and eventually got their favorite show a second season. Sadly, and despite that new (brief) season being stronger than the first, the show was canceled, again. But fans aren’t done with the show yet, and now they have created a fan-funded and -produced television spot that will be running for 10 days (over 250 times) in the Los Angeles area during the second week of June.
After funding an ad in Variety and a gigantic billboard in downtown Los Angeles broadcasting the need for a new home for their favorite show, Jericho fans – or Jericho Rangers, as they’re often called – have put together over $6,000 to purchase TV advertising in what may be a first for a fan community seeking to show support for a beloved show. Here’s the (very nice & well-done) ad :
Tonight there’s actually a reason or two to turn the TV on. At 10.00 on NBC comes the second (and hopefully stronger) episode of NBC latest anthology series Fear Itself, and this episode will feature one name Lost fans are familiar with : Cynthia Watros, otherwise known as the mysterious and missed Libby.
Last week for its premiere the show wasn’t really good, but as it goes with about any anthology, you can never know what to expect, not even quality-wise.
Recently, Cynthia Watros was interviewed by E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos, to talk about the show. Don’t be scared, read ahead, it’s pretty spoiler-free…
As unbelievable as this may sound, it is indeed true. Found on the official ballot released by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to its voters, one of the 41 names for guest appearances is the name of Britney Spears, for her double guest-spot mess on How I Met Your Mother.
Obviously she was terrible and won’t even be considered (right?), but the simple fact that she could be nominated gives me the chill, as well as reminds me of this sick mess that dragged her not once, but twice on CBS hit comedy; And the worst part is that still to this day creators of the show haven’t made it clear she would never ever come back.
Of course, another name on the list for Emmy consideration is the one of the lovely and talented Sarah Chalke, for her performance in the same sitcom, and while I don’t have a clue of who the nominees will actually be, I’m already feeling like rooting for Chalke. She was perfect for the role, her character showed great chemistry with Ted, and quite honestly when reading some of the other names mentioned - such as Sarah Silverman for her spot on Monk (yeah, but no), Mary-Kate Olsen as a religious pot-dealer on Weeds (this was just a big unfunny joke? wasn’t it?), or Alyssa Milano on My Name Is Earl (mostly miss/under-used, while stuck in some comatose plot) - I think we may have a winner, don’t you think ?
Remember Jericho ? That CBS series about the people from the little town of Jericho, and how they had to survive and eventually save the free world after a nuclear attack was launched upon the USA, and multiple bombs actually went off in all major cities. I’m sure you remember it, it’s the show CBS killed during their first season, and then brought back for a (too) brief second season after millions of fans went literally nuts…
As we all know, we’ve seen the series finale of the show, since CBS decided against renewing the show for third season. But, as they were working, producers were still hoping for one, and so they had done two endings : the one we saw, and one with another season in mind. This alternate ending will be on the DVDs of the second (and final) season of Jericho, coming June 17, but if you can’t wait you can see it right here, right now !
Rumors have been out for a while now that Katherine Heigl was willing to leave to ABC hit-drama to move on to “bigger” things, namely pursue her movie career after the two successes she starred in, Knocked Up and 27 Dresses. But she has a contract holding her to the show for a bit longer still, and they’re not willing to let her go for now.
Apparently, Heigl isn’t too happy about it, and wasn’t too pleased either with what she was given to do this season on the show. In about a month, when nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards will be announced, last year’s winner for actress in drama series - Katherine Heigl - will not be one of them.
As you’ve probably heard, the most anticipated and exciting new shows of the upcoming season is no other than J.J. Abrams’ latest series, Fringe. We’ve already had trailers and other promotional pictures during a first preview of the show, and now here’s a video of the man, J.J. Abrams himself, talking about his latest creation :
Fringe premieres on Tuesday, September 9 at 8.00 on Fox with a special 2-hour episode.
Not sure how this got out there, but no plans for spinoff at this moment. The books do have a spinoff, but we have nothing in the works right now other than making sure season two gets off to a great start.
Oh boy… apparently the makers of so-called hit-drama The CW’s Gossip Girl, which despite a large buzz on the Internet and huge promo campaign failed to perform greatly in ratings, are playing with the idea of a spinoff series, which would be set at a girls boarding school.
Truth be told, this idea actually comes fro the books Gossip Girl is based on : in the books, little J wants to become popular and struggles to fit in. After a series of public embarrassments (including appearing in a teen magazine wearing next to nothing) she ends up having to either repeat ninth grade, or find a new school. Unsurprisingly, she decides to go somewhere else, and reinvents herself as a popular girl after entering a boarding school. Her story was told in a series of six spinoff novels, called The It Girl.
On Monday night was the season finale of ABC Family new series Greek, and it was nothing less than a success. The series wrapped up its sophomore season on a high note, as its last episode of the season being the top rated program among all basic-cable networks in the 8.00 slot on women 18-34, viewers 12-34, and female 12-34.
Overall, Greek is the highest-rated original series in Adults 18-34 in the network’s history, now ranking as ABC Family’s most-watched original series ever among adults 18-34, women 18-34, men 18-34, viewers 12-34 and females 12-34.
Pretty easy to see why they have already renewed the show for a second season…
Funny thing: earlier today I was mentioning Lifetime great support for the return of their hit Army Wives, and how before the season 2 premiere this past Sunday the network made sure all viewers could see (again) the first season. I also wished that some of the main networks would follow that example and re-air some of their new series before their return for a new season this fall, especially those freshmen who will otherwise have been away from our screens for almost a year.
Well, at least one network is smart enough to know that promoting a show and ensuring people watch it is actually a big deal, and that’s why Fox is going to run a marathon of the first season of its only returning new series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, starting Sunday, August 10 at 9.00 Then, all the other episodes from the first season will follow, one episode a day from Sunday to Wednesday, for two weeks. (Yes, due to the writers’ strike only 9 episodes were made for the first season.)
