Weeds: Lady’s A Charm

Weeds(S04E02) Changes are still happening on Weeds, at least on the outside. Last week the show was back for its fourth season, and with it we saw the Botwins move to a new place, though not really a new life. But as a last reminder of their past, and what the show used to be like for three years, we had one last time an opening credit sequence, with the traditional “Little Boxes“.

Not this time.

No, from this point on we’ve moved on to a new season, Nancy and co have moved on to a new place, and there are no more little boxes. Instead, what we will get now, if I’m not mistaken, are each time one “card” that will illustrate what the episode will be like, or give an idea of what it’ll be about, a first sign of things to come.

In Plain Sight: Trojan Horst

In Plain Sight(S01E04) Aw, In Plain Sight, that new USA series about Mary Shannon, US Marshall who’s not afraid to bend the laws and blah-blah-blah usual stuff. After a highly flawed and really not that good pilot episode, the show seems to have evolve into something that isn’t as bad as it may first have looked, but to be completely honest, something that still isn’t really good either.

So it’s not bad and there’s not really much else on TV these days, all resulting in me tuning in once again and watching a new episode. And now that I have, I can’t really say I’m disappointed by it. It wasn’t really good, it’s no where near the quality of what I’ve become used to see on television, even from cable networks during the summer, but it’s not all bad, and again, there’s really not much else on anyways…

In Treatment renewed for a second season !

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 21, 2008

In TreatmentWe’ve already talked about it when it was rumored that the HBO “experiment”, In Treatment, might come back for a second season, and now it’s a done deal !

As said then, this new season will see executive producer/showrunner Warren Leight in charge. Leight, who has spent the past few seasons as executive producer of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, recently inked a deal with the network. The half-hour drama is moving production from Los Angeles to New York (where Byrne lives), where production is expected to start in the fall, and it is expected to return to the air in 2009.

Thursday’s Numbers

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 20, 2008

NumbersAnother Thursday night, so let’s have a look at the numbers again. And once more there’s no real interest in finding out which of all the reruns performed best (hint: it’s CSI), no what we care about are the two new series form Thursday night, which - thanks to smart network execs - have been put the same day at the same time.

Here it goes : Swingtown was down 1.2 million viewers since last week, yet managed to win its slot with 6.1 million viewers and 2.1 on the demo. Fear Itself did loose some viewers as well (200 000 of them) and was second, with 4.7 million viewers and a 1.5 on the demo.

And again, the way I look at this makes Swingtown a looser, and Fear Itself just not performing too good…

Are Network Exec So Stupid, Or Why Yet Another Strike Is Upon Us…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 20, 2008

SAG StrikeDo you remember ?

It was the beginning of the year 2008, writers were on strike, studios were lying and refusing to even talk, actors were supporting their beloved writers (even Katherine Heigl), and on TV there was nothing but the occasional American Idol eight times a week or so. Aww, good times.

Yes, it was the good times, when we saw the global television audience drop and many viewers leaving never to return, when the strike cost Los Angeles around $3 billion…

In other words, it was great, so much that networks & studios are hoping we can do it again this summer ! What do you say, are you in ??

Fear Itself: Family Man

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 20, 2008

Fear Itself(S01E03) Well well… we are now in for the third installment of NBC’s anthology Fear Itself, and if there’s one that (pretty much) always goes with anthologies - that you can’t really know what to expect from week to week, even from a quality POV - at least after three episodes we can start to see a pattern as to how each of the stories will be constructed.

No, not all are the same and there are no template they are all bounded to, but it’s become clear now that at least a few things can be seen about each story, a few things that are likely to be how each installment of the anthology will be constructed, and unfortunately it’s not really all for the best.

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly… This Season For The CW

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 20, 2008

The CW(This week we look back at how each of the main networks handled things this past season, as well as looking at how things are looking up for the coming one. Agree ? Disagree ? Share your thoughts and grade networks in the comments below…)

The Good

They do have a few good shows, really good shows in fact. Despite not pulling out amazing ratings, Gossip Girl has a generated a lot of buzz (see Teen Choice Awards), so much many are convinced it’s a real hit, and that’s okay because the show is actually good. And of course, the best of The CW comes from the dark side, say hello to Supernatural and Reaper, both renewed!

Matthew Perry not through with television

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 19, 2008

Matthew PerryA couple of years ago already, Matthew Perry tried to come back on television, it was through Aaron Sorkin’s latest series, Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, and he was coming back with the great Bradley Whitford. On paper it had everything to become a great success, but that not really how things turned out, the show ended up being a complete mess and was canceled by NBC soon enough.

“Screw the main networks, I’m going where the new quality stuff are nowadays!” did not say Perry, but he will still be coming back on Showtime. The network ordered a new dark comedy, The End Of Steve, which will be both written and produced by Matthew Perry and Peter Tolan. That’s right, Perry won’t only be in front of the camera but also involved behind the scenes.

(At Least) Three More Years Of The Office

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 19, 2008

The OfficeAs you probably know, our great Michael Scott Steve Carell is in full promo-mode these days, showing the world he can Get Smart. And during one of the many interviews he’s doing each day, here’s a little tidbit of information we, fans of The Office, might found particularly interesting.

Talking about the future of his hit-sitcom, Steve Carell said : “All of the main cast are signed for three more. Beyond that, I have no idea.

So we should have at least three more years of The Office, yay! Although, to tell you the truth, this got me thinking : I know what happened to Lost did happen because the show is such a heavily serialized show and it was pretty much required to ensure it wouldn’t burn and crash miserably, as it would have otherwise, but what ABC did there was actually a blessing a lot more shows could use.

One of the reason we have great memories - or not-so-great ones - of past shows comes from their ending, how and when it ended. Question: Should those three more years be the last ones for The Office ??
