Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog Teaser

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 27, 2008

Dr. Horrible\'s Sing-Along BlogFor those of you unaware of what’s coming soon to a computer near you, here’s a recap : Remember that horrible WGA strike ? Yep, well while writers were on strike the brains of Joss Whedon couldn’t completely shut down, and the guy started writing a three part musical series for the internet. Each of the three episodes will be approximately ten minutes each, and though it’ll start on the Internet be warned, Whedon already stated that there’ll be “amazing DVD extras” !

Anyways, along with his brothers Zack and Jed, as well as Jed’s FiancĂ© Maurissa Tancharoen, Whedon did the writing, the shooting have then also been completed and the series is now in post-production.

What is it about ? According to Whedon himself, “it’s the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he’s too shy to talk to.” And if you want more, here’s a teaser of Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, which will star Barney Stinson Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible, Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer, and Felicia Day as Penny, among others.

Thursday’s Numbers

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 27, 2008

NumbersYes, after every Thursday we have our traditional look at the night numbers. As usual I won’t mention anything before 10.00, cause it’s not really worth caring (you’ll look at the numbers below if you’re interested).

So, nothing really new at 10.00, except that ABC had the new Hopkins instead of a rerun of Grey’s Anatomy, so they went from last to first on the slot, no less! With 5.8 million viewers, Hopkins won the slot in total viewers, though it got beaten on the demo by Swingtown (1.9 vs 1.6) It’s also worth noting that while again loosing viewers from its lead-in (1.5 million of them), Swingtown still grew on the demo from a 1.7 to a 1.9

Fear Itself: In Sickness And In Health

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 27, 2008

Fear Itself(S01E04) So last night we had another installment of the NBC anthology Fear Itself, and as said per the rules of the genre, one can never really judge or make expectations for an episode based on the quality, or lack of it, of past episodes. Because every episode exists on its own, without any link to the others. Their stories aren’t linked, they don’t share the same actors, writers or directors, and as a result you can go from one extreme to the other week after week, you can never know.

The first you’ll notice about this episode, is probably that it stars two known faces from USA comedy Psych, James Roday and Maggie Lawson. But this episode was written by Victor Salva, writer of Jeepers Creepers and its sequel. And in the end, I think he’s mostly the one to blame for this crappy episode.

Top 10 Emmy Finalists

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 27, 2008

Emmy AwardThe Emmys have released the lists of top 10 finalists for best comedy and best drama series. It’s not the nominations, just a “pre-selection”, but there’s already some (big) surprises, like the inclusion of Family Guy in the best comedy series — never an animated series made it there, but this year creator-producer Seth MacFarlane opted to have his show run for the best comedy series, while submitting a special episode (Blue Harvest) to the animated category — as well as some misses.

I mean I really wanted to see Life on the Best Drama list, and I can’t believe that once again How I Met Your Mother isn’t on the Best Comedy list ! You won’t also find Desperate Housewives (but that makes sense to me), My Name Is Earl, Scrubs, or Heroes but it is to include the one that’d have been surprising this year.

CBS Premiere Dates, And Full Update

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 26, 2008

CalendarAs we sometimes wonder what to watch these days, cause there isn’t really much on (though tonight we got both Swingtown and Fear Itself), the premiere dates for next fall keeps coming in.

We can now add CBS to the list, and it’s pretty straight forward, no surprise, no special time slot for the premiere, nothing like that. When it comes to CBS, September 22 will be the D day. On this Monday will return the comedy night (introducing new series Worst Week), and the usual CSI: Miami that comes after.

Then, the two next days gets to see their shows back on, and it stops. Until Friday, October 3 where new series come back again, ending the return of CBS series on Thursday, October 9 with CSI and new series Eleventh Hour.

Full listing, and a reminder of when the other shows come back, it’s all after the jump !

24 Update: Carlyle was drunk, or something.

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 26, 2008

24Not that all Scotsmen love their beer, just that apparently he got about everything wrong !

Remember yesterday, how I mentioned a recent interview Robert Carlyle did for Premiere.com, during which he announced a bunch of things about the 24 movie prequel and the upcoming season ? Well, it did sound quite odd, not just to me, and TV Guide’s Matt Mitovich got in touch with Fox to ask what the Hell was going on !

As it goes, when Carlyle said that “this two hours is two hours in real time and there’ll then be 22 episodes“, that was wrong. The movie is indeed a real prequel to the season, two hours of additional stuff to which will be added a full, 24-episode season of the action-packed hit-drama, for the seventh day in the life of Jack Bauer. Thank God!

Because Scripted TV Needs More Reality In It…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 26, 2008

Paris Hilton - My Name Is EarlOh God, please make it stop.

It seems there’s a new trend lately, that makes for scripted shows, usually comedies, to feel the need to hire some “tabloid cover girl” and turn them into their special guest-star, like this was going to be such a cool move and a great boost in ratings. You know what, I was never for it anyways, but I’m getting really sick of it now !

I mean sure, Britney Spears did boost the ratings a bit for How I Met Your Mother, she was also really bad and I’m guessing about 99.9% of the people who tuned in for this episode while not usually watching the show, only did so to see how much of a train wreck she was, so they could make more fun of her. Also, I guess at least 99.9% of them will NOT be coming back to the show, because they only cared about making fun of a train wreck.

24: The Movie, Or How We Will Get LESS 24 Than Usual !

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 25, 2008

22Where in the World in Jack Bauer ??

No really, I’m asking. Do you guys realize that the last time the latest superhero rushed into our little screens to save the world, was in 2007 ? May 21st, 2007, to be precise. That’s a freaking long time, and yet the show isn’t coming back until January 2009 !!

Yeah yeah, writers’ strike, not even only half a season completed, blah blah blah… that doesn’t change the fact that last season was the worst the show ever had, it was really a bad one, and now we have to wait and wait and wait some more before we can see Jack kicking ass again. Thank God, this is why Fox came up with a plan : a movie !

A two-hour movie, prequel to the upcoming seventh season of the show, which will air on Sunday, November 23rd at 8.00 - on Fox obviously.

And recently, Robert Carlyle talked a little with Premiere about this upcoming movie in which he stars, and there’s something wrong! (Read ahead, no spoilers involved!)

The 34th Annual Saturn Awards: Winners

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 25, 2008

Saturn AwardBack in February the nominees were announced, and Lost was leading nominations receiving no less than 8 nominations. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films made the winner known, and the ABC hit-drama is now leading again, taking home half of those awards, including the much-deserved Best Network Television Series award. And other than the award for Best Actress on Television, I’m pretty happy with the results.

Here’s how it goes (in italic my votes back from February 21st, in bold the winners) :

Leaked Pilots, Spoilers, … What Is Ruining Your TV Experience ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 24, 2008

ClockEarlier on today, during my usual browsing around the many TV sites I visit, I came across something. It was about the most anticipated new series of the upcoming fall, J.J. Abrams’ latest creation, Fringe.

As you probably all know by now, an early version of the pilot was leaked (probably by Fox itself, but shh!) and found its way to the BitTorrent world. As a result, many have already jumped on it and watched what seriously looks like the best new series of the season already, and a definite must-see TV, for sure. And our friend theTVAddict is not one of those who watched this episode, not yet.

He’s waiting for September 9th, and the official series premiere on Fox. See, he’s taking a stand !
